Lord Charles Sheridan and his American wife, Kate, are on an archaeologist dig, excavating sections of Hadrian's Wall, when they are summoned to Glamis Castle by King Edward. Nestled in the rugged Grampian Mountains, Glamis is the most historic castle in all of Scotland, a place teeming with dark secrets and haunting shadows.

While Kate winds her way through the elaborate manor, gaining inspiration for her next Gothic novel, Lord Charles discovers the reason behind their journey. It seems Prince Eddy, heir to the throne until his purported death in 1892, has actually been alive all these years. Deemed unfit to rule, he has been living secretly at Glamis under an assumed name.

But now the prince has gone missing—on the very morning the body of one of his servants was found, her throat slashed in a manner eerily reminiscent of the Ripper's. Now, Charles and his clever Kate must find Eddy and clear his name—while keeping his true identity a secret...

This series is well written, and the performance is very good. I’ve been listening to the whole series, and I have found that by book 9, the use of quotations and song lyrics make me cringe as I listen. In the later books, the chapter opening quotes now are from current characters of the series book. and attributed to Robin Paige. It’s silliness. The worst is when song lyrics or a Macbeth quotation is used to open the chapter and then in that same chapter, Kate recites the quotation aloud, or characters sing the song, with all the lyrics in the dialogue. If you listen you will understand what I mean. I physically cringe when it happens. Readers get it. You want us to notice literally allusions. You want to make sure we understand that those allusions are there. If you use the quote to open a chapter, we are going to notice the connection within the chapter without Kate saying it. I understand that Robin Paige used the quotations in her first book and wanted it to be a consistent technique throughout the series, but the books would be so much better without her doing this.

The song lyrics and quotations are cringe

Great entry in the series. Really enjoying the narration and the puzzle was top notch. Never saw the ending coming. Quite the solution to a challenging problem. Enjoy and on to the next entry.

Great suspense, mystery and murder. Princess Eddie comes back into the picture and this time the stakes are high. But with the Sheridan duo in the case there is no telling what will happen!

Tangled

I loved all the twists and turns in this one. I will say Kate sort of runs circles around Charles most of the time but since he does all the heavy lifting on the forensic side it’s okay. The author creates the most interesting characters and is stellar at world building so it makes for a very enjoyable story.

Thoroughly enjoyed Charles and Kate’s latest case
