Publisher's summary

When a promising local artist disappears, the victim's brother begs Detective Tara Thorpe to take the case. It seems there's no evidence of foul play...he simply disappeared without a trace.

Tara agrees to do some digging...never mind that her unorthodox approach to policing has got a few of her colleagues' backs up. Amongst them is her former supervisor Detective Patrick Wilkins...he's had enough of Tara calling the shots and will do anything to knock her down. She must be careful.

At least she has an ally in their boss, Detective Garstin Blake. He'll always back her hunches. If anything, they work together too well...at least, that's the rumor around the station these days.

When a body of a young woman is found frozen near the fens, Tara's evidence suddenly becomes key to solving a high-profile murder. Is their missing artist still a victim...or in fact, a clever murderer with a deadly plan?

Narrator was so distracting I gave up

I appreciate the free books on audible. I often listen to one and then buy several more when I like the author. Glad this was free because I was so distracted by the monotone voice or the English narrator that after several hours I gave up. The cadence of every sentence was the same. Da da da… da. Sadly I won’t seek out more of her books because I can’t tell if it was just the narrator or the poor writing causing her to do it.

Resolution needed

Struggled to finish this one. Though the crimes are solved, little or nothing happens in the sub stories. i am thoroughly weary of Babette, Wilkins and Tara's tormentor. it makes the characters seem ineffectual.

Hard to follow

It was hard for me to follow the story. Did not keep my attention and not invested in the characters.

Cliff hanger

Cannot wait until next book! Wow great quick read. But it leaves you hanging and longing for next book in series.

Ok Story

Difficult narrator. The fairly staid story was made almost stupefying by the single tone rapid pace of the narrator. Once I turned the speed to .9 was better able to follow and stay on story. Ok read then.

A quick and enjoyable listen

Clare Chase and Lucy Brownhill are well-paired as they combine their talents to bring us “Death Comes to Call.” An intricate police procedural, Chase shares Detective Tara Thorpe’s gripping murder investigation with riveting intrigue. Brownhill’s narrative expertise brings this ensemble to life. Whodunnit? Alexa and I thought we had it. We were wrong. We were happy to find this in Audible Plus catalogue at no cost.

Decent free read

Perks like these books keep me paying for Audible Plus

Not good enough to pay a credit for but certainly worthwhile with Audible Plus

Doesn’t matter that this isn’t the first book in the series - author easily catches you up

Fun series

I am enjoying this series so far. It’s not quite a cozy mystery, but it also isn’t a super gruesome thriller, seems to have a good mix for those wanting something in between the two. The narrator is excellent as well.

Giving up at chapter 3!

The story seems interesting, the reader doesn't stumble, but really, "Hung- Gup"? Hang- Gon? I give up on this reader.
