Publisher's Summary

Things may be tranquil at the lake house, but a storm is on the horizon.

Bradley and Anna have their work cut out for them; winter is upon them, and they need to be smart if they’re to survive the winter in this dangerous new world, bereft of technology.

They work their bodies to the bone to stock up for the winter, and in the process find a little girl, having run away from her family in hiding.

Soon, however, it becomes clear that her "family" is anything but conventional and they begin to realize they’ve made some powerful and unhinged enemies....

Great series and narrator

I’m really enjoying this series
Winters coming and brad is teaching Sam survival tactics
Anna seems like she’s hiding something refusing to let brad get closer to her
Add a 10 year old runaway brad saves and the crazy family that want her back and you got a nice setup for book 3
Andrews narration was excellent As always his female and kid voices are spot on Highly recommended

Dead of Winter

Loved it!I didn't want to stop reading it! Brad,Anna and danny are living a mostly calm life when a stranger brings hell to their door. Narration by Andrew B Wehrlen was the perfect narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Now I need book three!

This one picks up where The Longest Night leaves off and continues moving at a good pace. they are always being on edge because of the known and unknown dangers that their world now contains after the EMP in the ongoing effort to survive. The relationship between Brad and Sam continues to get stronger and at times it looks like it will with Anna too but she's holding back and still skittish. When Sam saves a 10-year-old girl things become complicated and the story quickly intensifies and then leaves off on a huge cliffhanger.... So now I'm on to book three! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes survival, adventure, and post-apocalyptic stories. It has been a really fun series but I would also caution that there is some graphic violence and some language including 5-6 uses of the F-bomb throughout the book. I would place it more in the High School level and up.

Great book but wish they were longer

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As with the first book in this series, I really liked it, but wish it was longer. The story is pretty fast paced and it felt like it was over in the blink of an eye. That being said, I still definitely recommend this series to anyone who likes a good surviving an apocalypse type story. The narration is done well and I felt fully engaged in the book the entire time.

Campy listen for cold winter nights

Or not so cold anymore this time of the year, but it is definitely something to listen when you cozy up around the fireplace. The narrator is very soothing, although in the middle of the book it started to somewhat bother, as I started to have a feeling I was listening to it at the 1.25x speed, so it was quick sentences followed by a breathing pause. Overall it did not take anything away from the experience and by the end of the book it left me wanting to know more, so I had to get the next book to find out how the story continues.

The struggle to survive continues.

Picking up not lone after the events of The Longest Night, Dead of Winter continues the story of survive for Brad, Anna, and Sam in the dangerous post apocalyptic world. The early part of the book focuses on the trio preparing for the coming winter, until one day when Brad is out on a supply run and finds another lost soul...which brings with her a boatload of trouble. You know you're enjoying a story and the characters when you find yourself talking/yelling at them for stuff they are doing...and I did that several times while listening to this book. Definitely look forward to seeing where the story goes from here. As always, Andrew Wehrlen does a great job with the narration.

Just as good as the first

I received a free copy of this in exchange for an unbiased review. I was worried this would be a let down considering how good the first one was. My only complaint is that it's over. Where do we go from here?

I Couldn't Turn It Off

Excellent job to both K.M. Fawkes and Andrew Wehrlen. Great story and excellent narration.

This leaves me waiting for more....but why is book 4 on Audible, but not book 3?

You never know ...

Brad's father still had not arrived at the prepper lodge he'd built and stocked throughout his life. Perhaps the epidemic had killed him. As winter approaches, Brad and Anna harvest and preserve and Brad teaches Anna's son, Sammy, how to hunt and trap. Winter arrives early, and with it an unforseen danger which threatens them all.

Part two of this post apocalyptic thriller could be read alone but is best taken in sequence to better understand the background. A slow action story, it has a feeling of real possibility, survivalist, which raises moral questions. And the interplay between the characters is good. Narrator Andrew B.Wahrlen is excellent, his brisk but sensitive reading propelling the book forward, holding the reader's interest with the underlying threat that something bad is going to happen despite the cabin's isolation and well stocked sulplies. He voices each character individually, the tension present between the two main protagonists evident. As always, a fine performance.

This is not a long book, quick and easy to read, though it has harrowing uundertones. I eagerly await part three. My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy of Dead of Winter, via Audiobook Boom.
