Publisher's Summary

An unlikely serial killer with a bucket list of victims....

Police partners, D.I. Calladine and D.S. Ruth Bayliss battle a murderer who is working their way through a list of victims. Each murder is meticulously planned and unique, and a tarot card is left at the scene of the crime. When two children disappear in the local area, the stakes are raised and the team are baffled by the link between the crimes.

Calladine and Bayliss race against time to prevent any more carnage. If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Mel Sherratt, Ruth Rendell, or Mark Billingham you will be gripped by this exciting new crime fiction writer.

Dead List is book three of a new series of detective thrillers featuring D.S. Ruth Bayliss and D.I. Tom Calladine. Calladine discovers shocking new information on his complicated family background and Ruth has some surprising news for him. A new detective, Stephen Greco, also come onto the scene, provoking competition with Calladine.

Tom Calladine is a single, 51-year-old detective inspector who is devoted to his job. His personal life, however, is not so successful. Having been married and divorced before the age of 21 has set a pattern that he finds difficult to escape.

Ruth Bayliss is in her mid-30s, plain-speaking but loyal. She wishes she had more time for the gym and a love life. She uses her demanding workload as an excuse not to try too hard with the men she meets. Her hobby is birdwatching.

The series is set in the fictional village of Leesdon on the outskirts of an industrial northern English city. There is little work and a lot of crime. The bane of Calladine's life is the Hobfield housing estate, breeding ground to all that is wrong with the area that he calls home.

Best so far, with awesome narration..

This is my favorite book so far in this series. I love Amaris, and Tom Calladine’s sudden feelings for her. But then, anything was better than Lydia.

And, believe it or not, I really liked the killer. Not crazy about the killings but the killer was sweet and you really could understand.

I liked the story that came out about Tom’s parentage. That was somewhat of a shocker! I also liked how Tom had his partner Ruth read the letter his mother left him before she died. Ruth and Tom are more like siblings than partners, since she’s always fussing at him because he just keeps screwing up his love life. And it was nice to hear that Ruth and Jack are pregnant.

This was a very good book and I do hope the rest of the Calladine and Bayliss series are going to be on audible soon.

There was no sex in this story, as usual. And the F-bomb was used 2 times.

As to the narrator: Just awesome. Jonathan Keeble does great voices and reads with such feeling. He makes listening so enjoyable.

Even better than the first two..

Really enjoyed this book in fact I'v enjoying the whole series. A killer with a list of people they are going to kill, tarot cards with meanings to the dead bodies plus broken hearts.

The two heros are believable and the book isn't padded out with unneeded descriptions or waffle. Only gripe is the fact the book isn't long enough!

Well narrated and worth my credit.

great narrator easy to follow narrative

third book in series over 2days, loved listening to narrator voice. after a VERY detailed gory description of the villains torture Technics in book (one that nearly put me of listening to more ) I enjoyed the less graphic details in book 2&3. easy listening, nice to know characters personalities.

Excellent

the story is down to earth as are the protagonists, the setting possitivly Northern as are the characters. even knowing the killer from the start does not deter from a twisty, well written and grpping tale. Ms Durrant does it again!

Irritating lead character

This is the third of this series that I’ve read. While the story was ok and the narrator has a lovely tone I find myself wondering why this is advertised as a police partnership. The female detective barely gets a mention while the man-child detective flits from one unlikely love interest to another, changing his affections like a 14 year old. Not sure if I’ll try the next in the series - all a bit of a let-down!

Lots of action packed into 5 hours!

Calladine and Bayliss are back and this time they're after a killer who appears to hbe going through a list of victims, and each murder is by a different method. There's also a new hotshot DI in town, Stephen Greco, and he starts to tread on Calladine's toes, which doesn't go down well!

On top of this Calladine's love life is a mess and Ruth can't help interfering.

The books in this series are fairly short, but there is so much packed into them and I'm really enjoying the series. The narration, by the impeccable Jonathan Keeble, is fabulous!

Yet more thrillng

Another great performance and another great story by Helen Durrant. The writer keeps the drama on this fictional series, but its so believable you get lost in a belief of possible reality. Great work.
