If the lights go out forever, can love survive?

When a group of women from different walks of life are brought together by fate during the end of the world as they know it, each must find a way to survive against the odds, as well as learn to rely on each other.

Laura Kennedy finds herself without a home when part of the city of Astoria, Oregon, burns after a solar storm causes a worldwide blackout. Left with few options, she resigns to living with her brother’s family and trying to get by while food and resources quickly diminish. As she begins to despair about the fate of the world, a handsome, young stranger rides into her life, and suddenly, she finds herself attracted to a woman in a way she never expected.

Sam Quinn is a veterinarian student. When the power goes out everywhere and believing everything happens for a reason, she decides to ride Northwest on her horse to explore the rapidly changing landscape in hopes of finding a place where she belongs. Instead, she encounters nothing but fear and unrest, or at least until she has an accident and wakes up to meet a woman named Laura. Sam can't stop thinking about her, but Laura nothing to do with Sam.

Taylor Barnes is an Army veteran, who is happy to simply work on a farm she shares with her close friends outside of town. However, when the city of Astoria struggles to maintain order after the world goes dark, she suddenly she finds herself thrust into a leadership role she never wanted. The only reason she agrees is so she can keep the world safe for Jackie, the woman she loves.

Jackie Scott, once a powerful CEO, had the world at her fingertips but is now adrift in a new reality without any of the modern conveniences she once relied on. Living on her sister’s farm near the small town of Astoria, the only stability she can rely on is Taylor, the one person who she is slowly learning to trust and, if she is willing to listen to her heart, maybe even love. The end of the world is only the beginning.

Number Two

This was a continuation of the first book I listened to. I enjoyed this one as well. Thanks for filling my morning with joy.

Who would you survive with in a dark world?

Darkness Remains is the second book of the Darkness trilogy. The author continues the story of the four lesbian heroines surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. She also added two additional main characters without detracting from the original four. I liked the two new main characters. What I liked more is that the ones I had become fond of in the last book, still played central roles. As with any second book in this genre (post-apocalypse versus lesbian romance), the characters keep adapting while dealing with new obstacles to overcome as their survival depends on it. The other great difference between a women centric viewpoint is that unlike other survival books, it wasn’t all about killing to survive. Rather it was more about building relationships, restoring normalcy, and killing to protect their group, if needed. I have listened to all three books and would highly recommend taking the plunge and listening to them all back to back. I am placing these on my annual re-listen list.

Narrator: Violet Dixon was great. I saw others throw shade on her. I have been a subscriber to Audible for over 10 years and have been listening to audio books since cassette days. Violet is a great narrator. Better yet, Violet narrates all three books!

Great follow up sequel!

I enjoyed the book, it was a good sequel. The new additions and harrowing moments were plausible and done well. I liked the energy of all the characters and especially liked that the author had strong female leads throughout. The narrator was also very good with conveying emotions as well. Overall, great book!

Great Sequel

This was a great sequel, enjoyed the new characters and the added growth of the previous characters. Glad the author seemed to balance the new with the old and that she uses strong female leads though out the entire story. The narrator made a great story even greater, very easy to listen to. Over all a great story and listen, hopefully the final in the series will also be put out as an audio book.
