Publisher's summary

A recent murder is ancient history in a breathtaking novel about a sacred lost treasure and poisonous retribution by the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of At First Light.

What an exotic way to die in Chicago.

When esteemed historian Elizabeth Lawrence is found in her car, killed by a cobra’s bite, only a brilliant professor of semiotics, Dr. Evan Wilding, can see the signs around her strange death. As he helps homicide detective Addie Bisset decipher the scene, the puzzles left behind offer Evan chilling passage into the mind of a killer.

Evan’s investigation merges with that of an Israeli agent, who claims Elizabeth was close to acquiring an invaluable artifact. She was also drawing the attention of unsavory treasure hunters, forgers, and thieves. Was someone desperate to expose the truth of Elizabeth’s astonishing discovery?

The deeper Evan and Addie delve into the case, the darker it gets. A murderer’s archaic crimes are just the beginning. In a race where there can be only one winner, the final victim might be Evan.

Another good one, but...

Make no mistake, I enjoyed this book very much. However to me there was something missing as compared to the first in the series. Still, I recommend this book, it is still a unique and enjoyable read.

Another Romp Through Chicago

Another romp through Chicago with Dr Wilding. Ms Nickless is a new to me author and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Evan. I’ll be adding her other novels to my TBR list. Let’s dive into book three!

Thoroughly enjoyed

I thoroughly enjoyed Dark of Night as much as I enjoyed the first in the series, At First Light. Timothy Campbell does a great job with the narration. Can’t wait for the next in the series.

Timothy Campbell is excellent

Outstanding performance by Timothy Cambell brings the characters to life.
Author Barbara Nickless reprises the diminutive wizard of knowledge, Dr. Evan Wilding, for another 'wild' (no pun intended) adventure into the worl religious manuscript. The desire to obtain these manuscripts crosses international boundaries, as well as legal and ethical means. Several new characters are introduced that add the extra variable of spy vs. spy. It gets really messy when people are murdered without obvious connections to the artifacts.
Dark of Night is an excellent thriller written with great detail and wonderful characters.

This is One Convoluted Tale!

This novel has more blind corners than the famed NC/TN highway known as the Tail of the Dragon. Every time I thought I had this proverbial snake by the tail, I was absolutely wrong. But then, that's part of the charm of a novel featuring Dr. Evan Wilding. Since reading the first book that featured this unique character, I've been hooked. He's definitely not the average brilliant specialist who steps in to help law enforcement on enigmatic cases. Dr. Wilding excels at many things yet has a charismatic charm that makes him exceedingly likable.

The author has created not only multi-faceted characters but a tightly woven storyline as well. The pacing is perfect, never allowing the reader a moment of peace before plunging us headfirst into the next shocking segment. Fans of suspense and thriller reads, as well as police procedurals, will find this to be an enjoyable novel that is well-balanced between storyline and characters.
