Publisher's summary

Lament is how you live between the poles of a hard life and trusting God's goodness.

Lament is how we bring our sorrow to God - but it is a neglected dimension of the Christian life for many Christians today. We need to recover the practice of honest spiritual struggle that gives us permission to vocalize our pain and wrestle with our sorrow. Lament avoids trite answers and quick solutions, progressively moving us toward deeper worship and trust.

Exploring how the Bible - through the psalms of lament and the book of Lamentations - gives voice to our pain, this book invites us to grieve, struggle, and tap into the rich reservoir of grace and mercy God offers in the darkest moments of our lives.

Enlightening

It is a read to digest slowly, meditate on, and pondering over. Ask questions upon questions. Take notes and apply.

A need message for today’s Christians in America

This is a great and rare topic in our “everything is fine”, “just grin and bear it” culture. I was introduced to this book/author because of an article that the author posted on desiringgod.com and am very pleased to go through the full book to better understand the concepts. Highly recommend to anyone (Christian or non-Christian) who is dealing with spiritual, emotional, or physical pain.

Exceptional work!

Should be required reading for church leadership. Excellent look at a topic that is rarely considered.

It reads like a Masters Thesis. I have no idea what he is talking about.

He makes references more than he actually writes his own ideas. He seems sincere about whatever it is he is talking about. I don’t understand the book, because, the Bible also tells us to be happy and rejoice. I’ve had enough of lamenting and feeling sad. I’m done with that. I prefer to be happy instead.

Learning to Lament

I highly recommend this book for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. The author takes you through, step by step, on how to lament from a biblical perspective. I also recommend starting a journal while listening to this boom and practicing lamenting

5 ⭐️for the book 1 ⭐️for the narration.

I found the author through a podcast about grief and lament. The podcast was excellent. The book is excellent. The narration is monotone and depressing. It almost sounds like a computer is reading it.

I have never heard a sermon about lament. I have spent the last 20 plus years living with intense physical pain, 18 of which was spent in bed. I wish I had found this book then. Instead, I languished in a non denominational type environment. This book has been balm to my soul.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

A thorough look at needed lament

I found this to be a very honest and helpful look at lament as we consider the purpose of pain and suffering in light of being a child of God. We need more of this teaching in our communities.

Loved this Book!

Lament is an important part of the believers walk with God which is often neglected and suppressed to the detriment of our souls. God wants to us to come to Him with all our sorrows. Please cast all your cares on Him for He cares for you!

Balm

So thankful for this book. I have been going through a very painful loss and fell asleep listening to this book (in a good way) the first night when I was finding it so difficult to sleep for grief.
