Publisher's Summary

Julian Savage was golden. Powerful. But tormented. For the brooding hunter walked alone. Always alone, far from his Carpathian kind, alien to even his twin. Like his name, his existence was savage. Until he met the woman he was sworn to protect.

When Julian heard Desari sing, rainbows swamped his starving senses. Emotions bombarded his hardened heart. And a dark hunger to possess her flooded his loins, blinding him to the danger stalking him. And even as Desari enflamed him, she dared to defy him - with mysterious, unparalleled feminine powers. Was Desari more than his perfect mate? Julian had met his match in this woman, but would she drive him to madness - or save his soul?

Narrator 's speed was inconsitent

What did you like best about Dark Challenge? What did you like least?

The story was great

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dara as she was very strong in her beliefs

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sean Crisden?

He was very poor as there was times he would be very fast in telling the story and then he would be slow.

Did Dark Challenge inspire you to do anything?

Any additional comments?

Narrator was bland

Instead of keeping my interest- the narrator was putting me to sleep other than that the story was good

I tried to like it

I tried to like this series. I've read the first five books or technically listened to them. I didn't really like any of the narrators and thought that was the problem at first but even with a terrible narration I can sink into the story if it's good. I wouldn't call them bad but I just couldn't get into it. I feel like they just repeat too much of the same thing over and over. it starts to feel like they replete that carpathian's need to protect their mate every other line. We get it their mates are perfect and beautiful and made for them. I don't need every word of the book to remind me. it's sad because I like the idea of the stories. i like the characters. I find carpathian's as a different race fascinating. with this story I find it hard to believe that Gregory didn't come to help after he found out his brother and sister were alive especially now that he has a life mate and has his emotions back. If you like this type of story and are having a hard time getting into this one try the immortal Gardian series by Dianne Duvall.

New Characters and talents!

Julian has just one more task to accomplish for his Prince before he will end himself to avoid turning vampire. What a surprise that the woman he needs to warn and protect from fanatics turns out to be his lifemate. And her group of troubadours are lost children of the Capathians. And Desiree and her brother are Gregori‘s lost younger brother and sister; escaping the massacre that killed their parents.
5 new characters and incredible talents to enrich the world of the Carpathians. And Julian gets to face down the vampire that marked him when he was 12, and forever changed his life.
Crisden has a pleasant enough voice- for other books. It’s just too “white bread” for this story. This series requires at least a Frangione, but my fave is Gigante.
Must Recommend!

Amazing!!!

Amazing... this book is wonderful, very rich on details about the carpathian’s story. Until now, this is one of he best books os Christine Feehan I’d heard.
The narrative is enjoyable. Sean’s voice is clear, well articulated.
this book doesn’t require any kind of recommendation. The story speaks for itself, from the first chapter.
Like the other books in the series, this one also has a narrative with erotic content.

Caution! Spoiler Alert!!!

The storyline is Fantastic, just not finished. another few chapters or perhaps another book or two are needed.

An attack on Julien, his lifemate, or Darien while they were in the ground was begging to be made. Were the changes in Barak because he wasn't claiming his lifemate in order to give her time to heal?

Good but..

I usually love her books and this one was also good. My complaint is the fact that most of the woman do not have self will. They act so help-less and seem to have no self control. Maybe it's just me but I would like a change where the women actually put up a challenge for the men. I found myself getting frustrated and irritated and the main characters. The books by this author is always good but I wish the carpathtian women would be a little stronger/challenging.

Cruelty to children should be outlawed

Even in a strong male, cruelty leaves a devesting effect . This beautiful person shows it can be overcome. Family can heal all wounds with love and support........😀

The Dark series is excellent!

What made the experience of listening to Dark Challenge the most enjoyable?

Love the characters, the sense of community, the devotion and determination.

What other book might you compare Dark Challenge to and why?

I don't really know...to me, each book stands on it's own.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sean Crisden?

Anyone who didn't make Desiree sound so ugly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

I've heard other books narrated by Sean Crisden and he does ok. Here's the thing...Desiree is supposed to have the voice of an angel, and he makes her sound like a nasally, hateful shrew. It really didn't work for me at all. I would pay for a re-do as this is a sad ding in my current collection!
