Publisher's summary

Everything was a lie, fake, a façade of beauty to cover the ugly truth.

Sloane Ellis has a secret—actually, she has many. Working in a sex club wasn't part of her life plan, yet neither was her best friend vanishing without a trace. The club and her missing friend go hand and hand. One secret leads to another, until the lies pile up. After months of working in the club her friend frequented, Sloane's no closer to finding answers, the police have no leads, and time is quickly running out. The last thing Sloane needs is the newest member of Club Joi, Adam Newcomb, complicating her mission and stealing her heart. Yet with one kiss, she falls. But you know what they say about secrets—they have a way of coming out, and when they do, Sloane's life crumbles for the second time—this time destroying her chances of a happily ever after with the man she loves.

Working undercover is old hat for Asher Noble. This assignment should be no different, hell, it wasn't any different until he met Sloane Ellis, event coordinator for Club Joi. She's hiding something, but so is Asher. She does her job with a smile, but there's an underlying sadness mixed with disgust. She has less interest in working in a sex club than Asher has watching the nightly performances. There's no room for distractions when a young woman's life and freedom is on the line, yet a kiss changes everything. A kiss that never should've happened. A kiss that leads a man pretending to be someone else to risk everything to protect the woman he's fallen for.

Sloane Ellis must decide if she can trust Asher Noble when she realizes he's not who he pretended to be. Asher must save the woman he loves from disappearing into the same nightmare world as her best friend. Together, they must stop a monster before he claims more lives.

Takeback is an off-the-books, special operations task force composed of military contractors and US Marshals. Their mission is simple—to save those who have been taken.

Great Romantic Suspense

I have been looking forward to Asher Noble’s undercover HEA ever since I listened to the teaser at the end of Dangerous Games! Sloane Ellis has been working at Club Joi to find answers after her roommate’s disappearance. Never interested in enjoying the job perks until she meets the suave & mysterious new member, Adam Newcomb. Secrets, espionage, and scorching chemistry make Dangerous Encounter a thrilling love story. Sloane and Asher/Adam are dynamic main characters who have compelling individual journeys, and are explosive as a couple. This action-packed, seductive story is a fantastic installment in the Takeback series. I loved the character cameos from the whole crew, especially when the Takeback women rallied around Sloane. If you love a pulse-pounding, steamy military suspense, add Dangerous Encounter to your TBL.

Vanessa Edwin and John Lane were captivating as Sloane and Asher. Vanessa brings a vivacious woman next door quality to her portrayal of Sloane. She breathes life into the sultry, sophisticated, fiercely loyal FMC with a passionate performance. John’s portrayal of the reserved, protective, quick-witted Asher was alluring. Vanessa and John bring Riley’s emotion-driven, subterfuge-filled romantic suspense to life with outstanding narrations. If you are looking for a seductive, healing, spine-chilling military romance, get Dangerous Encounter in your ears, STAT!

Sloane and Asher

Oh Asher, Asher, Asher...how being involved in a club of desire changes the way you think. Asher was not happy about being in a club that hid lies so well, the FBI couldn't crack what was going on. Asher had been undercover for some time trying to crack the question, "What is happening in this club and with the patrons?"

Sloane caught Asher's eye! How many women who want to be in a sex club go but seems ashamed of what is taking place? Asher knew something was but the attraction to her was strong. He knew something was different about her, he knew she was hiding something but what was it?

Sloane was on a mission and she was going to find what she was looking for. She knew Asher was different but couldn't put her finger on it and couldn't keep her mind off of him. Sloane and Asher connected in a way that a lot don't. It wasn't just the chemistry but also the trust that came after some crazy situations. Sloane eventually had to give up on her mission somewhat but knew with Asher by her side, things would work out. Would she find what she needed once their lives were clear of danger?

I enjoyed the narration of this story. I was kept on my toes and thought at times, Sloane will not make it out.

Riley weaves another story that keeps you captivat

Riley weaves another story that keeps you captivated. Asher and Sloane both have secrets that weigh heavy on them as they feel a pull toward each other in a place neither truly want to be. I was anxious waiting for the shoe to drop and the house of secrets to come tumbling down around them as I rooted for sweet Asher to get the girl and Sloane her knight. And the HEA was cemented after Asher went alpha caveman protective, some serious danger and edge of your seat suspense...you know all the things that make her books awesome. And oh yea Tim...if you know you know how exciting that cameo is. Narration was terrific by Vanessa Edwin and John Lane.

Things aren't what they seem!

Sloane and Asher are fighting a losing battle trying to not act on their feelings! They both have secrets and doubts about where they meet but can’t deny the chemistry. I love how Riley broaches some of the really ugly topics to bring awareness and while writing an entraining story. I listened to this book and the narrators really did a great job and I didn’t want to stop listening until I finished!

Sloane 💜

4.5 ⭐️ Love this series this found family is everything! I do wish there was a little bit more to this one but loved Sloane. Her loyalty to her best friend/roommate and how far she was willing to go to get answers about her disappearance was amazing. She always knew that there was something she could trust about Asher and rarely questioned that. Asher and his alpha ways (swoon) 😍. The part where I wish there was a little more was on his part. I wish we could have seen a bit more from him about his past about his family. I wanted him to be more confident about what his gut was telling him. He was constantly going back and forth on what he wanted to do. This book still had all the makings of a Riley Edwards book it still had your found family, alpha males, spice and a little mystery to it. She is always an instant buy for me.
Narration was 5 ⭐️ for me I haven’t listened to a lot of John Lane but i definitely should because I love his voice! Vanessa Edwin is one of my top female narrators and she always does an amazing job at bringing her characters to life 💕

Asher

For me, this story had not only the romance, but a decent level of suspense. Whether you are reading or listening to Asher and Sloan, you won’t be disappointed.

Good plot but slow!!!

The story moved so slowly that I almost did t finish. Characters were good. Female narrator was excellent but the male narrator had a smarmy voice that did nothing for an excellent male character.
