Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times Best-Selling Author of DEFCON One

“Weber's expertise on U.S. military matters is high, and his depiction of Chinese motives and methods well above the level of Yellow Peril fantasies. A solid accomplishment for thriller readers.”—Library Journal

In the skies above the Pacific, a U.S. Navy F/A-18 from the USS Abraham Lincoln blows up. The question is why? But answers aren’t easy to find.

When another jet mysteriously explodes in midair, the president can no longer ignore reality: U.S. forces are under attack. But by whom?

While the military and intelligence communities race for answers, the president calls on ex-CIA operatives and former military pilots Scott Dalton and Jackie Sullivan to launch their own investigation. An investigation that takes some shocking turns as they uncover a conspiracy that seems to lead directly to the heart of China....

“Thanks be to the book-writing gods; we have a writer who does what writers are supposed to do—tell a story.”—The Wichita Eagle

unfulfilled

I felt the author left you hanging without a true ending, and to many unanswered questions.

For two capable HEROS, these two are the most unlucky saviors this nation has every been blessed with. Every Murphyism ever conceived bites them in the butt and still they save the world/USA and get the bad guy. Not to mention a newer new plane, amazing.

I Hated the series building

I HATED how the book series didn't build off each other... not once. Spoilers: in the last book Dulton was going to propose to Jackie but, they didn't even touch on that. Also, they did have a jet already but, no mention of it in this book.

Superb book, full of multiple location adventures

This book has uncountable action events. I couldn't keep track of the airborne battles or even the change of locations. This was a superb book. The author knows his subject matter and explains it clearly. I am headed for another Joe Weber book and I hope it is performed by Dick Hill.

This is book 2, not book 3.

I loved the book, but it's not book 3. Assured Response is book 3. This story precedes that book.

deep undertones of racism and sexism

won't recommend to anyone, not the best telling for a war story w China as the aggressor. I understand it was written a while ago, regardless though.

Right wing spin by a good writer but political spin destroyed the good story

A good writer but his politics destroyed the otherwise fairly thrilling story. And the ending was very similar to his first book. Unrealistic the first time, unbelievable the second. Dick Hill is a great reader in everything he does.

I couldn’t take the narration

Wow, 2nd book in 150+ that I just can’t stand the narration. The voices for fighter pilots are more like for brain dead morons. I I know no pilot refers to HUD as the “ache” “uh” “Dee”.

How much of this story was based on facts?

I enjoyed the “story line-“ a bit like watching HGTV do a house restoration in thirty minutes. The historical information must have been highly researched and that was what I found fascinating. I listen to almost everything that Dick Hill narrates. What a voice he has.

hmmm...

very similar storyline to previous books with common themes, however, the plot is pretty good never the less. the performance leaves a LOT to ask with the voices made - especially female ones.. 😂 a good laugh at first but becomes quite annoying after a little while

this is for tech-heads.

I am not a tech-head. I found all the military detail boring and could not finish the book.
