About the Creator and Performer

With a famed and storied career that has spanned more than six decades, Dan Rather has been one of the world’s best-known journalists for much of the last half century. He has interviewed every president since Eisenhower and personally covered almost every important dateline of the last 60 years. Rather joined CBS News in 1962. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 1981, he assumed the position of anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News—a post he held for 24 years. His reporting across the network helped to turn 60 Minutes into an institution, launched 48 Hours as an innovative news magazine program, and shaped countless specials and documentaries. Upon leaving CBS, Rather returned to the in-depth reporting he always loved, creating the Emmy Award-winning Dan Rather Reports on HDNet. Now, building upon that foundation, he is CEO of News and Guts, an independent production company he founded that specializes in high-quality non-fiction content such as The Big Interview with Dan Rather on AXS TV, now in its eight season with more than 140 episodes. After the 2016 election, Rather became known for his social media postings and currently has nearly five million followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Too Political

I really was touched by Dan’s love of country but his hatred for Trump (I am not personally a fan of Trump) caught me off guard and soured the experience.

It was really good until he shared his political views

This has some great stories in it and I really enjoyed it until he decided to share his personal political views.

Very Entertaining!

Dan Rather is a little before my time but listening to him tell his stories, then sum them up with a perspective of today's events, and challenges felt like spending an afternoon on a park bench receiving much needed advice from a loving grandfather. A moment of normalcy in in the midst of chaos . . . a much needed treat!

Last 6min...too political

I liked hearing is personal stories and the historical information, but once again a reporter giving his political view. Sad that we are loosing entertainment opportunities that are just fun/interesting. (I can make own choices on my political view, I don’t want to hear a reporter’s, actor’s, or any other celebrity’s view).

Tainted

A good entertaining story, also rather touching at times. But toward the end his ridiculous analysis of politics and Trump made me turn it off. If Dan Rather can't see how biased and unreliable the media is and has been long before Trump then I am saddened that he is not the journalist I thought he was!

Wonderful!

What a great performance. I thoroughly enjoyed this and didn’t want it to end. This also comes at an important time for our country.

I like him better now than I did when he reported

As he admits at the outset, Dan Rather was proud of his job and gloried in his personal power of the press. This short audio allows him to reflect on his career through an older, wiser, more suitably humble lens. I enjoyed listening. I also appreciated the reminder of the tough times our nation has been through, and his encouragement of the path forward through tough times, namely by actively looking for opportunities to connect with and help one another, especially the weak, vulnerable, or wronged.

Criminally short

Rather's delivery here is superb. I could have listened to him tell these stories all day long. The only problem is how short it was. I dearly hope he records more of these. His experience, comfort, and presence were captivating.

Rather’s road

I thoroughly enjoyed Dan’s stories. He had been a fixture throughout my adult life, and to some extent those of my Boomer generation, as we watched the world unfold through his commentary. I found his early rise up from humble roots in rural south Texas to his nationally prominent role as successor to Cronkite one of our achievements as a nation. Well delivered with humility and humor.
