Better Title: "The Catch-22 of Self-Discipline"

Any additional comments?

Let me sum up the advice of this book in a single sentence: To develop self-discipline, you should do lots of things every day that require self-discipline. I kid you not. I think for most people, if they had the self-discipline required to do these things each day, they wouldn't be reading a book on how to develop the self-discipline required to do the things every day that doing will lead to stronger self-discipline. There are some good tools in the discussion of how to avoid some common pitfalls, so it's not a total waste, but it could be half as long. As editor, I would lose the long section inviting the reader to do many things that if he/she had the discipline to do in the first place they wouldn't be reading this book. Or, I would at least acknowledge the Catch-22 inherent in that advice, and explain how some of the techniques might work. I'm not convinced that forcing myself to take a cold shower every day is really going to build the sort of self-discipline I'm looking for. What I really think is that maybe Martin has watched one too many Bond or Bourne films, and in the end, I blame the editor more than the author for not trimming some of that self-help fat. But who am I to throw stones? The man's written books. I haven't. But I don't take five-minute cold showers either (unless there's a bet involved, and then Tim Ferris can explain the purpose of that).

Waste of time

This was a total waste of time and money. Advice like take cold showers to succeed. I'm glad the cost and time was not much.

It's a diet book/exercise book

Not at all what was expected. I was looking for daily discipline techniques not a diet book.

Daily Self-Disciple

I could not finish this book. The content is much to basic (preschool of discipline) and the readers voice was irritating. I want my money back. I give it zero stars.

Young, somewhat bland, unhelpful.

Did not like the athoritarian tone wrapped in trite, short-sighted truisms that if true...everybody already knows. I'd you read this book and find yourself likin it then maybe you've never read a well written book. Prose in its finest form it is not! Careful not to go too deeply or you will regret the time stolen by a blowhard know it all who writes about as well as a competent 6th grader. Good day.

Dull, boring, pointless, awful.

I try not to give bad reviews. I figure if I don't like a book, maybe it's just not for me. Maybe someone else could like it.

This is an exception. Because - This book has no point. It's a rambling collection of silly essentially trite nonsense. I learned nothing. His examples are dull. His suggestions are eye-rolling awful. His "technique's " are borderline stupid. Example: learn self-discipline from taking cold showers. Wow, I paid ten bucks for that?

As bad as the writing is, the narrator is perhaps even worse. Slow, meandering, and devoid of any inflect or personality, he is as dull as white bread. My audible collection is well over 500 books, and this narration is perhaps the all-time worst.

Summary: Bad writing, bad narration, bad production. Just bad.

Lackluster delivery

Really tried to listen to this book but the reader's voice and energy bored me to tears. Didn't feel motivated. Why such a dry delivery?

Made me feel motivated to get up and do something!

Some really interesting ideas on how to start gaining daily self discipline and how to keep up motivation once you take on something in your life. I will definitely implement some of the ideas and practices.

The book you've been looking for!

Very good points spelling out how the lack of discipline occurred in the first place. To be honest, this is what I had been looking for for years without realising it! Having it clearly spelled out in front of you allows you to see clearly, the areas where improvement is required, and tells you how to exercise the muscles to improve it. I feel reassured I am on the right path now that I know how to improve!
