It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
Several months have passed since the dead began to walk. The first winter has taken its toll in more ways than one as humanity continues to struggle to survive. Not every threat to humanity comes form the undead as so many have discovered man's ability to sink into depravity with the absence of law and order. Time and again survivors have fought, run, and regrouped. Yet, there seems to be no respite, and as winter draws on...things become more and more difficult to endure. A new threat seems to materialize even before the last can be dealt with. And if the physical toll was not enough, the hours of isolation and the time left with one's thoughts can become just as destructive. How much more can you take?

If you are looking for predictable, move on.
So, once again, TW Brown killed off someone in the story that made me mad when it happened. Seriously?? If you are reading this series, you will understand and I won't ruin it for you. When I mentioned that he needed to stop doing that, he said, "and become predictable??" (We have become acquainted via facebook due to my obsession with this series!) Well, you cannot accuse TW Brown of being predictable, that is for sure! If you are NOT reading this series, you should be and start with the 1st book. TW Brown is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Not just because of the genre, but because of his attention to detail in the story AND in the characters. Definitely recommend this book and the others in the series! Looking for the next one!

Excellent series!
Would you listen to DEAD again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to the series again, but instead I've gotten the Kindle version and am now reading the whole series again. The author is an excellent story teller!
What did you like best about this story?
At first I wasn't sure if I'd like the approach of different stories for the same catastrophe that hit the whole world, especially the vignettes. As I started listening to the first book and really got into the story I got used to the different story lines, and the many different characters. It is a very addicting series.
What does Andrew McFerrin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I wish I knew how he did it, but he gives each character life, and even while I'm re-reading the series, I try to do the same thing, have each of the characters come out exactly like he protrays them. He is an excellent narrator, and has become one of my favorites.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
In these books you get used to each of the characters and you feel a certain way about each one. Like when something bad happens to Steven's group, you really feel the pain and sadness that the group feels when they loose one of their own. And I feel the same when something happens to Kevin and his band of survivors.
Any additional comments?
Remember, the Dead series is a zombie apocalypse story, but it's a bunch of different story lines that continue in each of the books. Sometimes some of the vignettes stories either end, or they continue on and you start to feel for the characters in those mini stories. The author doesn't candy coat anything and there is as much despair as there is happiness in these stories. I really can't see how the author keeps them all straight in his head.

so good
T W Brown's Dead: Confrontation is the sixth book in a series about a zombie apocalypse and different perspectives of it. It continues in same style as the other books by giving the reader multiple perspectives of the going ons. These characters and all the stories have left a mark on me and I am so invested in seeing what happens to them all. These are better than watching the zombie apocalypse shows I could be bringing on right now. I'm not kidding about being addicted and cant wait to read next installment.
Narrator does a fantastic job bringing the story to life. Really brought the characters' personalities out. Love it!

Intense!
Any additional comments?
I absolutely love this series. And I could write the same review for each of them, they are that well-written. Trust me. Even if zombie lore isn't your thing, these novels will grab your imagination and won't let go. They are so much more than just zombie books.
TW Brown has a way of writing that pulls you in immediately. His scenes are rich and vivid. His characters are fully developed, including the secondary ones. By the time you reach the sixth book in this series, you feel like you know these characters as people. You like them, hate them, find them annoying - just like any real person.
Mr. Brown instills strengths, weaknesses, good and bad qualities into each one of his characters, just like a real person.
The pages of his books are filled with triumph, fear, love, and loss. And just like in the real world - no one is safe. Mr. Brown makes that clear in the beginning. You just never know what's going to happen.
When the world goes to heck, there are those that step up to become leaders and heroes who don't seem to fit the bill and there are those who have lived helpful lives who turn into sadistic monsters when the rules no longer apply.
Mr. Brown is an excellent student of human nature and puts it all into his writing.
And even through the twists and the turns and the "Oh my gosh - he did what to who???s" it would never occur to me to stop reading. I just have to know what's coming next. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I've shed a few tears along the way. But, I've also rejoiced at the victories. Looking forward to Book Seven.

Good read. Not my Favorite of the series Though
Excellent Series, but not the best book so far. A lot of plot twist, but almost a little too many in my opinion. Messed up or killed off some of my favorite characters. I guess it is a zombie series after all, and things can't be all sunshine and rainbows. I'm still hooked and can't wait to start the next book.

Big disappointment.
I been listening to this story for the past week. This book killed it for mean though. You spent so much time building up characters and in a very short randomly removed them. People that you would think would be grief stricken from lose appeared not to be effected when storylines continued...
I'm glad you gave one character a relatively happy conclusion over what's might have been done in a gloomy world.
Been a decent story but it's become rather direction less with the big decision to remove the pivotal person of so many people's lives.

Brown does another fantastic job
Any additional comments?
Zombie authors would be smart to read books by Brown.
He was originally one of my inspirations to write my own series. I could never match his level of brutality (and I wouldn't begin to try).
Again, his writing is superb, and his descriptions are never old and reused.
The loss of one of his main characters was both shocking and...well, it sucked. That is probably a good thing because if I'm mourning the loss, it means Brown made me care about the character.
Well done!

The Zombie Apocalype doesn't discriminate
If you could sum up DEAD in three words, what would they be?
Good, Bad, Ugly
What did you like best about this story?
What happens to Valerie.
What about Andrew McFerrin’s performance did you like?
How does this guy make all those damn voices and how does he keep track of who has what voice? Its unreal.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There is but I won't say because I hate spoilers and those you write them.
Any additional comments?
An author has done his job when he makes you feel some type of way when a character is killed off. Yup, bad things happen to good people in the zombie apocalypse.

A few dark points but lots of high points
Would you listen to DEAD again? Why?
Yes of course they are great zombie books!
What was one of the most memorable moments of DEAD?
There is one very low point where Mr Brown does it again killing of a fav character! But finally he gave us a book with more good bits than bad!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Taking the princess back to her home and Kevin watching and waiting until correct time to leave!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A certain death disappointed me but this is 'dead' get used to it, i liked ending of 1 pharaoh and another baddie hanging around :) you will understand when you listen/read.
Any additional comments?
I found the last book a little hard to follow but maybe i was on overload.
The major groups were easier to follow in this book as there are a few less of them so we had more quality time with each of them, they are all getting a bit smarter and wiser so finally get better chance of survival, they getting as treacherous as the bad guys but at least hold moral ground when using tricky ploys to keep them alive.
Yes we lost a major character in this book but for once the reader got just a bit more good news than bad :) not like Mr Brown though what he gives in one hand.......... Worried about the next book but can't wait to get into the story again! Brilliant Book! Thank you

Really enjoyed this book series
I thought this series was really well written, it took on a number of different perspectives and followed a number of groups, which I really liked however after much feedback TW cut down on this which I thought was disappointing, he also re-wrote the first few books following just one group each, these are 'Dead perspectives', 'Dead Vignettes' and 'Dead Geeks' I believe, so if you find lots of groups difficult to keep up with you might prefer these. He decided to keep it to 12 books which is a shame as it felt like there was a lot more these storylines could have given us. TW doesn’t shy away from the horror of what could happen and there is a lot of differences between the groups (which is why I'm unsure what others found so difficult about it, if they were all very similar it would have been confusing and boring but they are very very varied which I loved) but he doesn’t go too far into realms you don’t want to wander into (like the Zombie Fallout series by Tufo). I liked that it followed zombies on occasion too as well as groups of survivors and he wasn't afraid to kill people off when their time was done.
I like the spinoffs too, the 'Dead snapshots' are great, I like the attention to detail (the English one was pretty much on point re: lingo and culture) and I'm enjoying the new Dead series.

I have zero attachment to any of the characters because of the numerous story lines. everytime someone dies I'm like meh nevermind which seriously is kinda boring, what's the point of likeing the plot if the characters are flat and easy to dismiss.

Very dissapointed
If you’ve listened to books by TW Brown before, how does this one compare?
Having listened to the previous 5 books in the series I was a big fan of these books. Not ground breaking but entertaining enough. However, the author has added additions to the back story of the lead character Kevin. If he had been to survivalist camps then it really would have come up before. A lazy device and feels as though the author is getting bored. There have been hints of sexism in previous books, but it comes through strongly in this one. And, if you're going to quote anything, especially a classic Zombie film (Sean of the Dead) it's unforgivable to get the quote wrong - it's 'Dogs can't look up'.Really dissaopinted with this book - in fact I stopped listening it grated on me so much
