About this listen
Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black, this enemies-to-lovers adventure romance should come with a book hangover warning.
All magic has a price.
Haven survived the Devourers, but she isn’t any closer to breaking the curse. Meanwhile, her forbidden magic rages brighter and more dangerous every day. To control her powers and stand a chance against the Shade Queen, Haven made a bargain with two enemy immortals. Now, her waking hours are spent fighting alongside the Sun Lord, but her dreams belong to the Shade Lord.
Only, the closer she ventures into the wicked Shadow Kingdom, the more her magic shows itself and the more she struggles with whom to trust. The golden but wounded Sun Lord or the darkly charismatic Shade Lord. Both are off-limits. And both have the ability to save her or destroy her.
With the Shade Queen closing in and Bell’s time nearly up, Haven will sacrifice everything to break the curse, but will it be enough to stop the mortal realm from falling into darkness forever?
Welcome to the Kingdom of Runes where immortals and humans clash, light and dark magic reign, and mythical creatures lurk in the shadows.
If you like fierce heroines, enemies-to-lovers romance, wild plot twists, and endearing characters that stay with you long after you reach the end, you need to discover the book fans are calling dark fantasy at its best. Just make sure to clear out some space on your calendar first!

Story
Once I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Then a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away. After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. What Lyr doesn’t know is that the blade might restore my stolen magic. But as we journey, the gorgeous jerk starts to make me feel things I’ve never felt.

Story
My father called them messengers. He once told me they walked among us and that somewhere in this dark and godless city, there shined a faint sliver of hope. I had only to look for the signs. Well, I’ve spent my whole life investigating the inexplicable and all I've found are the unsettling vestiges of iniquity—the evidence of another world shrouded by the obscure. Purgatory to some, where depravity hides in shadows, and girls like me are little more than delicious bites of temptation. Others call it Nightshade.

So much better
If you had your doubts reading the first book, this one will change that. I liked the second book so much better than the first! The plot moved faster and the character development felt full circle. I highly recommend continuing this series if you’ve read the first.

I LOVE THIS AUDIOBOOK!!
This book had me on the edge of my seat- and frustrated I had to pause it off and on to “Adult”. All I wanted was time off from work and for my responsibilities to hold off for a day just to take it all in. Gotta love being an “Essential”! Even with being interrupted constantly I was easily able to follow the story line, and the narrator does such an amazing job of voicing the individual characters that I fell right back into where I left off. This series is definitely in my list of Top Favorites Ever- and I highly recommend it to anyone who who loves the genre of magic and destiny!

Book 2 in epic fantasy adventure series
Book 2 in the Kingdom of Runes series picks up right after the events of Oath Taker, with Haven on a dangerous mission to save her best friend and prince Bell. Boy does this girl know how to take a beating! Basically, this book was Haven moving from one dangerous, life threatening encounter to the next, with no guarantee for survival. There was heartbreak, betrayal, action, romance, confessions, hard choices, self sacrifice, and magic all tied up in one convenient book format- with a gorgeous cover as an added bonus. I loved the first book in the series but somehow the second was even better- even though I feel like my heart has been broken by the time I reached the end.
This is very much an adventure story, full of death and magic...but to me at least, this is also a complicated romance (as all the best stories are!) Haven has 2 love interests, one seen as good but is such a jerk usually, one who is all that is evil but is gentle and patient, basically mortal enemies but man do I love and root for them both. I have no idea how Haven is suppose to pick one when me, the reader, can't decide who I love more. On a side note, there were a few pretty steamy encounters along the way as well, just as a fun side note.
I need the next book asap so I can find out what will happen. The ending of this book was basically the start of a new, complicated mission with Haven smack dab in the middle of the mess- just where she keeps finding herself. This is the perfect read for anyone who likes fantasy worlds full of monsters and mayhem, the court intrigue of The Throne of Glass Series, and fans of strong characters who may not know what they want but will always do what is right.
Side note, the narrator did a fantastic job giving Haven (as well as the other characters) life. I loved listening to her read and interact with the story and I would gladly listen to her read the rest of the series as well as any other audiobook.

Break the curse... But at what cost?
Loved this audio version of the book. The narrator brought each character to life with unique voice and inflections so that you could easily tell which character the chapters perspective was coming from. This second book held more feels: happy and sad, heartwrenching loss and joyful reunion, bitter betrayal and crazy adventure. More heat as the attraction grew between Archeron and Haven. We learn more of their history and grow to love the characters as well. Lots of surprises at the end keep you wanting more!

Absolutely breathtaking
The second book in the Kingdom of Runes series is just as amazing as the first! I was blown away at the continued storyline, and how instantly I was whisked back into this incredible world. The characters are so compelling and realistic, including the villains, and complicated characters like the Shade Queen. Grey sets a perfect pace and flow for the story, and the narration really adds the tone and voice to the characters to keep the listener completely captivated. The magic and powers in this book are so beautifully done, and truly unique and different from any other story I’ve read. I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
