In ancient days, sorcerers sought to learn the One True Spell that would give them power over all the world and understanding of all magic.... The One True Spell was a woman, and her name was Mystra - and her kisses were wonderful. It is the time before Myth Drannor, when the Heartlands are home to barbarians, and wicked dragons rule the skies. Story
When the goddess of magic was murdered, Elminster’s world shattered. Once the most powerful wizard in the world, immortal, beloved of the goddess of magic, and the bane of villainy, he is now a tired old man. He is powerful but mortal, and with all the enemies a man who makes a habit of saving the world tends to accumulate. To make matters worse, Elminster has needs - feeding powerful magic items to the Simbul, his lover, is the only thing that keeps her sane - but their increasingly risky collection leads his enemies right to him.

Split between time and two worlds, Zaknafein had always been conflicted. That inner turmoil was magnified by his inferior position as a male dark elf in the matriarchal drow society. Only his status as one of the greatest warriors - as well as his friendship with the mercenary Jarlaxle - kept him sane. When he finally perished, he was content knowing he left behind a legacy as substantial as his son, Drizzt. Except...someone isn’t ready for Zaknafein to be dead. And now he’s back, hundreds of years later, in a world he doesn’t recognize.

FIRE NICOLE GREEVY!!!
I really love this book. It really disappointed me that it got such a shite narrator. Nicole turns in, what seems to be her trademark, lazy, monotonous reading. She sounds bored, and uninterested in the story she is telling.
Honestly, the only reason I was able to finish this audio book, is because of my love for the novel itself.
Amazon/Audible you can do better. Fire Nicole Greevy. She has ruined every novel she has read. She is the reason I have returned every other book in the Avatar series.

Out standing story... Weak narration
When I was a boy this was excellent story considering the preceding books..... The conceptualisation That the world is here for humans to make of it what they will.... At the gods control enormous power but must maintain a balance will they destroy all free will.... And make people dependent upon..... As a young man this was an interesting concept to explore in dealing with faith in the real world....
Either way it wasn't outstanding story....
The narrator Nicole greevy.... For she is probly best suited to be a commercial announcer on npr..... That she had a very flat presentation with every character for when she did try to make one character sound different from another in ended up coming off forced and very campy...... Certainly not somebody who's ever been trained in story telling..... However if you can get past her lackluster ability to tell the story it is an enjoyable book
