Great knowledge of the gutter of society.

The writing is excellent, but the subject matter is boring. I don't give a hoot about the characters who live in the gutter. Plot is meandering and hard if not impossible to follow. One of the rare books that I didn't care to finish because I didn't care what happened in his plot. Give him lots of credit for poetic descriptions and street knowledge. I will give him another chance with his later books (20 years later).
