From New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new stand-alone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot winter nights ensue....

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of 18. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he....

He’s going to keep her.

I’ve listened to over 145 books in the past year, and this is my very first written review. I absolutely had to because I COULD NOT put this book down. It has the perfect mix of interesting storyline, complicated characters, lots and lots of sexy smut but also a love story.
Now, I will say... the whole step-uncle, step-cousin romance is dicey. You’ll either not be bothered by it or you will. There are a couple cringe worthy moments when she calls him “uncle Jake” while in the throws, but it doesn’t come close to ruining the book. I listened and read this one bc it’s on kindle unlimited. I like to have the option to switch back and forth. The only narrator I found annoying was Jake. The rest were great. Great character development and an ending perfectly wrapped up in a bow. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Taboo AF, but I couldn’t put it down!

It was well written. The story itself is not one that I care for. It has a HEA but how it gets there is not something I liked. She has sex with the dad then both brothers at the same time, but in the end she has a HEA with one son while the dad and brother hang out… I would have rather the 2 others be town boys instead of family. It would have made the HEA more my style.

Story not like I thought.

This was complete insanity. Turns out I’m here for it. Super taboo plot line and flaming hot sex scenes! TW for suicide, loss of parents, cancer, neglect.

Oh my god..what did I just read and why did it work?

I really soaked up this fascinating book. The story line is completely original, so that in itself is a great reason to listen. The physical environment may be the best part of the book. The author creates a winter setting with an uncomfortable mix of remoteness, claustrophobia, and foreboding. This mix compels the listener forward, to discover what events are about to unfold. Spoiler alert: In the end, I also enjoyed the conclusion that all four main characters were horribly broken, and their becoming a “family” healed not only each of them but also the family as a whole. On the other hand, the lack of character development to explain the psychology and motivations of the four main characters was disappointing. For instance, we are not even given a physical description of them. This makes them seem shallow and completely narcissistic because we can’t relate to or understand them. And believe me, their behaviors are so bizarre that you really WANT to understand what could have created these flawed human beings. Another spoiler alert: The last point I will make is that I found the sex scenes to be disturbing. I had to take some breaks because the detail of these inappropriate sexual relationships were difficult for me. There are definite triggers (violence, incest, coercion, perhaps some Stockholm syndrome) at play in this book. While difficult to explore, the sexual relationships in this book were probably necessary to illustrate how broken people make poor decisions that impact not only themselves but also those around them. I highly recommend this book, but make sure your seatbelt is buckled for the ride.

Impactful

So I heard about this on tiktok and knew it was like an “incest kink” but it was getting good reviews so I figured I’d try it. I understand the good reviews. I won’t spoil anything but the uncle and his sons are not blood, it’s her fathers stepbrother who they didn’t have contact with. So it’s not as creepy as I initially thought. In the real world it would be considered grooming and extremely taboo, but in book world, it’s romantic and a slow burn. They don’t have more than a few make out sessions until she turns 18. There are a couple of moments that were truly intense and a lot even for an avid spicy book person like myself, but overall this is great. And it ends very satisfying. The subplot was kinda predictable but still enjoyable. Overall, highly recommend this book, unless you don’t like extremely spicy scenes.

Much better than I thought
