Publisher's Summary

Coyote made Mother Earth angry. Coyote made the deer dance. Now Coyote has returned, trailing violence and death.

From a New Mexico arroyo, a bullet-ridden body has been mysteriously dragged to a highway. In a small town, a lawman is swamped by complaints of coyote attacks. On Navajo land, a young man faces the truth about who he is, where he comes from, and where he must go.

Investigating the murder of a Navajo leader, Sheriff Cliff Lansing comes up against an official whitewash that has branded the victim a drug dealer. But Lansing's deputy, Gabe Hanna, has already made a connection between the dead man and a multimillion-dollar timber deal on Navajo land. Suddenly, a land torn between ancient spirits and high-stakes power struggles is burning with violence. And as men die, the Trickster, Coyote, runs through the land-demanding justice and revenge.

Hints of Leaphorn and Longmire

Enjoying this series, a lot, the area it is set in brings back wisps of Tony Hillerman and Leaphorn, and the characters have the grit, humor, and depth of the Longmire stories. I think its the best of both worlds in a new one. Navajo & Hopi mysticism, history and traditions, background the stories in a wonderful way. I am looking forward to the rest of the series, and hope it grows and continues for a long time!

Enjoyable Southwest Adventure

Loved the scenery and the characters but the bad guys were a little one dimensional.

Interesting

I'm a Tony Hillerman fan, and this is not up to that master of mystery; however, it is a good start with a little magical realism. I'll check out the others.

Review of Coyote

I love mystery/ action adventure books that include Native American culture/beliefs in the story. This book was fast paced without feeling rushed, and enough action to keep you anxious for the very likable characters. I was not familiar with this author nor narrator, and I absolutely am a fan of both now!

Sigh x2

The storyline is interesting enough but again, all the female characters’ are inevitably reduced to tired tropes of “smart-n-sexy” or “too young but.. sexy” and of course…. “silly and man obsessed.”

disappointing.

Disappointing

These books have such great potential only to be lost when people make unbelievably bad decisions again and again. It's exceedingly frustrating precisely BECAUSE it had such potential. And it seems to be the case with each book in this series.....
