Publisher's Summary

Brice Brown sings about loyalty and broken hearts, the earnestness of being a proud Southerner, yet his popular country music lyrics are misdirection because Brice has kept hidden his attraction to men for all his life. But when a former lover - and band member - goes to the press with the truth, Brice finds himself sick of all the lies and returning to the sanctuary of his West Virginian hometown. The neighbors who used to be proud of the "local boy made good" turn on him. His record label cancels contracts, his wife files for divorce, and he finds himself disgraced and despondent.

But then Brice learns from a fan that there is a compound in central West Virginia run by a man who has helped troubled gay youth overcome their self-loathing. Brice takes a chance at redemption and finds the retreat in the woods. The owner, only a few years older than Brice, is a kind-hearted soul and does not turn him away and offers a friendly ear and comforting words. Conway Twitty once said, "Listen to advice, but follow your heart." And the man's nephew, Lucas, who serves as the handyman at the compound is a tempting young man, simmering with resentment at his past, angry at how he sees his future will be. And Brice thinks that Lucas is attracted to him but both men are hurting. Can they rise above the condemnations the world has given them and find something meaningful...together?

Ack!

This book had no redeeming qualities. The main character was old, jaded, and unlikable. The sex scenes were just... gross. And the cherry on top was that the author used the book to make alternate excuses for racism and racist symbols. Not to be outdone by bad writing, however, was this Randal Schaffer creature. I have never (seriously, never) heard a worse performance of an audiobook. His grizzled voice and his southern accent were about as sexy as a scouring pad caked with old bits of food. The worst was when he was reading an erotic scene. Rather than build up and make it passionate by reading with some excitement, his goal seemed to be to stop after every sentence or phrase to encourage the reader to ponder something like the pinching of nipples, or some thrust or another. Anyway, I suppose you get what you pay for, and I downloaded this for free. But, come to think of it, it wasn't free, because I actually do pay for the romance package every month. So I paid a little bit, and got nothing. No value there. So I would like, if I could to warn you off of this one.

Really boring

I’ve listened to this for over 4 hours and I can’t believe there’s still 10 more hrs to go. I just can’t do it. The plot is painfully slow - frankly I’m not sure what the plot is. So far a middle aged country singer from a very conservative background gets outed and loses his career. Moves back to small hillbilly town and reconnects his high school flame who is straight. I’m guessing somehow they end up together but I can’t wait 10 more hours to find out.
