Story
Within the underbelly of one of America’s largest cities lives a world where a man’s word is either his most valuable tool or his most respected weapon. When my father ruled that world and that city, he promised me someone who would one day make my reign complete. Since that day long ago, Araneae McCrie has been mine. She just didn’t know. My father is now gone. The city and the underbelly are now mine. The time has come for me to collect who was promised to me, to shred her life of secrets and make her who she’s always been - mine.

Story
I’ve made my mark and proven my loyalty to a man, a city, and a way of life. That loyalty has provided me with all the spoils of success. For the longest time, that hasn’t included a woman at my side. There is only one beauty that can bring my untapped desire to life. I shouldn’t have opened the door. Cracking open the stone and striking the flint is my doing. What follows is hers. With something so intense, will this spark lead to a blazing inferno? Will we make it out of the ashes before everything I hold dear is ravaged?

I’ve served my country, a man, and a cause. I’ve given my whole being while at the same time finding its true meaning. There was no way for me to know that the day I met the men who were to become my best friends they would introduce me to the love of my life. Fiery, red hair, and hypnotizing, emerald eyes caught my attention. Creamy soft skin, a stark contrast to mine, seduced my body. Strength, devotion, and determination stole my heart. I am Reid Murray and I’ll kill without regret to once again dance in the dusk with my wife.

To the world, I no longer exist. The life I live occurs outside the third dimension - a memory, a ghost, the boogeyman, or perhaps simply a figment of the imagination. When I’m passed on the street, there is no connection. No eye contact. I’m the one whose presence leaves a cold chill of uncertainty, quickly erased by minds who don’t want to acknowledge that men like me exist. On the dark web, I’m known as Kader, and for the right price, I will do what others can’t or won’t.

I was never supposed to see him again. Him being the man wearing the perfectly tailored suit, who oozed an intoxicating mixture of wealth, rebellion, and sex appeal. One night. No strings. No names. Still riding the high from last night, I walk in to meet my new client, and he’s wearing that same dangerous smirk. Yes, I’m consulting for Callahan Sharpe. That Callahan Sharpe. Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston's nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan. Publisher's Summary
There were still lessons to learn and consequences for the truth!
When Claire Nichols met Anthony Rawlings, she didn’t know they had a past, or that he had plans for her future. Over time, the role of teacher changed - games became reality - and domination turned to desire. Despite an insurmountable history, Claire and Tony found their way back to each other. Just when they seemed to have it all - love, respect, and the promise of a family - the game master exposed the truth.
Claire’s world once again spun out of control. Unwilling to allow her child to suffer the consequences of an old vendetta, Claire fled....
At one time, Claire was held captive in an opulent mansion - then her incarceration was a cell inside a state penitentiary. Was her new prison - a tropical island - truly less lonely? Perhaps that was the game master’s plan all along? Who will save Claire from her oldest nightmare and her newest reality? Will it be Tony? Can he forgive her for leaving him - again? Harry? Will he utilize previously unknown connections to save the woman who infiltrates his thoughts? Maybe Phil? Will his devotion in keeping Claire and her child safe be rewarded?
As the cards are played, sins of the past, innocent victims, and truths are revealed. With compartmentalization no longer an option, is the reality too much? Could there be an even worse isolation? With the game master dealing from a stacked deck, can this new high-stakes game possibly be won? When it's all over and their cards are on the table, some will discover their bets were too high - they have nothing left to lose - all will learn the crucial lesson - the most important rule - there are consequences for the truth! Aleatha Romig's Convicted!

I'm going to Compartmentalize this series.
I feel like this book is summed up by Claire nicely:
"Some would argue that a foundation built on kidnapping, isolation, violence, an yes -even rape- would never stand. I must disagree. We lived through hell and came out the other side. Like the song says, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I can't imagine anyone having a stronger foundation than ours."
Yeah, all that rapey stuff, and him killing your parents, etc. was all just a big misunderstanding and he's sorry so lets have warm fluffy feelings from now on.
SPOILERS
I'm sorry. No. Just... no.
I'm astounded by the 5 star reviews. Why is that a guy who does such horrific things get's a pass because he's a millionaire? Don't get me wrong... I've read and enjoyed a few kidnapper stories (heck most Highland romances involve stealing a lass) and BDSM stuff with consenting adults but I'm horrified that everyone seems to think that the happily ever after in this book is okay. Just... no.
Tony cannot, I repeat, can not be redeemed. You're trying too hard Romig. Pinning everything on the maid. Oh, and I get it, because I suffered through all the back story. I hated Claire and her stupidity but then that hated turned to a simple meh. And Tony turning a new leaf is sweet and all, but no, I for one cannot forget what he has done. You've tortured your leading lady so much that even with this HEA, I'll be she crack within the decade and kills herself. This is not happy. You can't force it.
This whole book is a horrific trainwreck. At least I want to say it is... to be honest I checked out and just read it for closure. Other than writing a review to warn others, I really don't care. Maybe it's because I've compartmentalized it.

The mysteries solved..
Would you consider the audio edition of Convicted to be better than the print version?
The storyline whether in print or audible form the author was able to create memorable characters.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Convicted?
The most memorable moments were when I finally was able to put the whole story together. What had happened to Clair that caused her catatonic state, where had Tony been, what had happened to synical, revengeful Catherine Marie, and Sophia.
What does Romy Nordlinger bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Having a narrator allows me to take the story with me, whether walking the dog, doing the dishes or laundry. Romy made different voices for different characters which always makes the story more enjoyable .
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Clair wants her happily ever after, Tony needed to learn to love, Catherine has plotted revenge for decades...yet Clair is in a mental institute, Tony learned hard lessons, and Catherine Marie ... Contines to plan
Any additional comments?
This is the first time this Author, and I have recommended this trilogy to others. I had been left repeatedly wanting to read/hear more!

Rollercoaster
Would you consider the audio edition of Convicted to be better than the print version?
I didn't read much of the print version since I purchased this specifically so I could listen to it at work.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Meredith was probably my favorite character or maybe Courtney.
Have you listened to any of Romy Nordlinger’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've only listened the other books in this series. I like Romy's voice, I'd look out for more performances by her.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Rollercoaster ride of crazy.

Thank goodness it is over!
I'll admit I finished the series because after listening for hours, hoping it will get better all the time, I just feel compelled to see it to the end. The inaccurate depiction of mental illness is an insult to anyone who suffers from it, and clearly shows the author's lack of understanding and research. Claire's mental illness is shown as a one-off event, rather than the truth that many people struggle their entire lives. It is a plot point, not an attempt at accuracy or to raise awareness.
For as many words as are used to describe them, I still find the characters shallow and under-developed, more caricatures than people. One more reference to "tears wetting her cheeks" might have sent me to the delete button early.
I picked this series from a list of "page-turners". The only thing making me want to turn the pages faster was trying to make the misery end sooner.

You Don't Want to Miss This.
If you read anything in this genre, you don't want to miss this. Everyone is talking about it and after finishing all three books, I understand why. It's crazy... a little bit romance, a little bit thriller, a little bit suspense... but whatever it is, it's absolutely compelling. I couldn't stop listening from one book to the next.

Much Better Than Truth!!
This whole series was an emotional ride.. Comparing this to the first 2 books, this one was much better.. Too many questions get answered here and the main thing that i took from this whole series is "Miscommunication " Tony thinks Claire did this, and Claire thought Tony did that... I guess if they talked rather than assume , then you could have cut away half of this book.
You will reach a "What the ****" moment near the end of this book, and honestly if I had a physical copy, i might have thrown the book few times... But then if i did that I wouldn't have reached a "Ahhh!! Finally!!!" moment.
You wouldn't get this book unless you already red the first 2.. then i advice you to get this one, so you could reach a happy ending and understand what is going on.

I hate everyone in this book. but couldn't stop
What made the experience of listening to Convicted the most enjoyable?
lots of plot twists
Who was your favorite character and why?
I hate them all. No kidding.
Have you listened to any of Romy Nordlinger’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's very long for that. I listened to it over 2 days though.
Any additional comments?
I don't think I've ever finished a book in which I ended up hating every..... single...... character.
*Spoilers Ahead*
I hate Claire for continuing to go back to her abuser, kidnapper, stalker, etc. I hate Tony for all the horrible things he has done to Claire and to others. I hate Katherine for obvious reasons. I hate Emily and John for not doing more to save Nicole from the horrible parents she has. I hate Harry for lying. I hate Amber for killing Simon. I hate Simon for leaving Claire the first time. I hate Phil for brining Claire and Tony back together. I hate Meredith for publishing the book, I hate Eric for being just a pansy and doing whatever Tony wanted him to do weather it was right or wrong.
The book left several unanswered questions - or else I missed them. Who attacked Harry? Where did Harry go? Was it a card analogy or a chess analogy--can we just pick one? Did Eric not get in trouble for his part of kidnapping Claire? What court gave this kid to two parents one who was straight out of the mental hosp and one who was straight out of prison for kidnapping, rape, assault, etc?
That being said, I couldn't stop reading the book . The story kept me on my toes with lots of twists and turns as the first two books did. The story was good although I did not like how it ended up. Not all good books end with good outcomes or the outcomes that we want. It was a book that made me have emotions that I did not want to have which is always a good thing. I felt myself feeling bad for Tony and had to remind myself to quit. I felt myself feeling mad at Emily for keeping Claire away from Tony and I had to remind myself that Emily is one of the most sane people in the book.

Confusing at First but Eventually Gets Better
Would you consider the audio edition of Convicted to be better than the print version?
In this instance, I think the print version would have been easier to follow. It was quite confusing with the constant flashes of present, past, and who knows!
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Eliminate a lot of unnecessary plot.
Any additional comments?
Overall, it was an okay book but I like the previous two books much better. Be aware, the end is a WTF moment.

Wow
I don’t know if I love it or hate it. Very long series. Some of the writing reminds me of Sydney Sheldon’s twist and turns but overall it’s a good read.

Convicted
This book is edgy, and sexy and all the things a good dark romance book should be. I enjoyed it.

Convicted? Maybe
5* for an amazing mind to create a blown away story so rich and with a very much intelligent writing. I'm talking about the entire series. I got to say it made me more exigent to argue some few points...
Near 20% left of this book I was sure the story was going on full speed, I was afraid I wouldn't like this last turn of events I was eager to understand Aleatha's direction on this...
Claire is the dominant person throughout all the books for me, even though I don't want to picture someone going through so much pain, so intelligent and strong like that in real life or the need to be, so wise, so in control with or without dreams or supposed hallucinations and nightmares. I was so proud of her and even sadder about the missing times she will never remember. I was dying right there... but she was safe! This was not an HEA for me. But I think if it would happen something, closer to this, to me... I would love to have met Claire! Love You!
Some of the secondary characters had the right time and place in my reading/listening, others had to much information misleading what my mind wanted to focus in. I was thinking to push forward some chapters... but didn't. I knew who has guilty in Truth so I didn't want to know Catherine better... I wanted to know Tony's heart, Tony's pain, Tony's forgiveness from himself...
I think that's something the author wanted to create, this expectation, this hope that this man was capable of love, care and hope... But it didn't work for me, was not enough... I felt there was something missing... (maybe I need to read Behind his Eyes. I will! Clever author... need the Audible version though :) please!)
Something different, don't kill me :) but:
"However" was a word in every chapter, sometimes short seconds or paragraphs had it and in the last three chapters, I thought I was going nuts with it and yes I almost forgot the "without a doubt" thing too! Huh.. A little annoying!
Nevertheless I wanted to forget about it to know the end. The end? Maybe! :)
I can gladly say I was not disappointed! Yet not enough, too rushed!
Of course I recommend this series!
For one it change my way of reading/listening forever!
