Publisher's summary

Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and dissected by three rivers, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is an idyllic city. It's quiet, the traffic is nonexistent, and floating down the Allegheny River on a boat is peaceful and serene.

It's perfect...as long as you can ignore the mindless monstrosities roaming the streets, vampires ruling the night, and the insane, power-hungry human survivors. Mankind has devolved, mutating into mindless horrors. Only weeks ago, they built skyscrapers and traveled to space. Now they attack anything with flesh, driven by the never-ending desire to consume.

Lance York, and his unlikely companion Cass, have survived the apocalypse. Much to their surprise, that was the easy part. They've fled the city, struggling to find food and shelter, fighting against the nightmarish infected and the militant living, willing themselves to endure through each day.

The world has collapsed, but the fight has just begun.

Great narration/Great book = fun entertainmet!

Which scene was your favorite?

Plenty of situations where you think character X is in one of those 'how you gonna get out of this one' scenarios - and when they do, it's unexpected.

Any additional comments?

I rather like this series - the characters are believable, and the plot/pacing of the books keep you interested and entertained. Wayne June is a terrific narrator, as well, providing the story with a lot of dynamics and life to the characters. Great narration/Great book = excellent entertainment!

Happy Camper

Would you consider the audio edition of Consumed to be better than the print version?

So glad I bought the second audiobook in the series, I work nights, alone, so I can't read books but audiobooks make the entire shift go by quickly.

What did you like best about this story?

fast paced action and the character dialog, great banter/wit

Have you listened to any of Wayne June’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First book in the series, helped to convince me to get the second book

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, in fact I stayed up late to finish it.

Excellent Addition to the Series!

Any additional comments?

This story picks up right were the first book, Devoured, left off. If anything, I found this story to be even more of a roller coaster ride chock full of action, suspense, and excitement.

In my review of the first book, Devoured, I noted that I am not a post-apocalyptic story reader/fan. I enjoyed the first book and I enjoyed this second installment in the series even more. Again, I would recommend this audiobook just as I did the previous book.

What makes it good? Overall I would say that the story continues to evolve and develop in new ways - sometimes unexpected. The story makes sense...it drew me in and had me pulling for some characters and hoping that others would meet a terrible end. The story is in no way a character study, but the characters are well-crafted in a world where survival means avoiding monsters at night and monstrous humans during the day.

Wayne June's performance brings a different voice to each character that author Jason Brant has created. I'm still not in love with June's female impersonations, but I also don't know any other way he could perform those parts.

Brandt's take on the post-apocalyptic world is one that is dangerous, suspenseful, harsh, gory, and sometimes funny.

Worth a listen? Absolutely. If you're brave you can listen with the lights off.

I love these characters!!!!

Would you listen to Consumed again? Why?

Yes!!! I enjoy listening to a good story more then once, to get anything I might have missed the 1st time.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed these characters. The relationship between casd and lance is great.

What does Wayne June bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does a really good job keeping the pace and changing the tones to match the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It took the world dying and filling up with vampires for me to live, that and a girl named Cass she saved my ass and everyday has been an adventure since.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoy this series. It is well written and keeps you engaged. Keep it up!!!!

I was consumed by this book!

This is a fun series. The main character is an unlikely hero before it's all said and done. I rushed right out and read the whole series back to back. Nice addition to my apocalyptic/plague/zombie collection. The narration was spot on for this book. Well worth a credit!

Lance + Cass = a very entertained listener

Book 2 picks up about 1 week after Book 1 ended. Our heroes, Lance York and Cass of the War Axe, are on a boat in the Allegheny River outside of Pittsburgh. Dr. Emmett Brown and soldier Meghan Iverson are still with the duo, providing cover fire and medical treatment as needed. The world continues to devolve in to mutated monsters that roam night and day and militant, power-hungry humans. Yet, the river seems the safest….at least until they lose their boat.

If you read my review of Devoured, Book 1, then you know I really enjoyed the start to this series. Book 2 does not disappoint in continuing the tale. In fact, I will say it is even better because Lance worked through a lot of his issues with his e-wife in Book 1 and we don’t have that slowing down the story line of Book 2. Our main characters are a unit, swiftly reacting to each other. Our plot is moving forward at a good clip. The scenery continues to devolve, creating more traps for our heroes. All the elements are present for a great zombie story, which this is. I enjoyed this book all in one day, coming up with additional chores to keep me in the kitchen or folding laundry, just so I would have a bit more listening time.

Cass continues to be my hero. I want to grow up to be her and do shots with her. She’s very practical in how she tackles this new world, taking axe to monsters and human threats as needed. Plus, I like the way she dresses, even if many of the side characters think it strange. I expect as the world continues to circle the toilet, we’ll see more and more folks dressing as they like instead of according to supposed societal norms.

As Lance spends more time with her, he comes to realize that he isn’t nearly as adept at dispatching foes as Cass is, and this bothers him a little bit. I loved that he was aware of his feelings of inadequacy, and how silly that was with the world as we know it ending and all, and yet he struggled with it. It created some humor and made Lance very human.

Brown and Iverson become more prominent in the story and we get some back story to each of them. Of course, the Back to the Future jokes continue with Dr. Brown’s name, but they are sprinkled throughout the tale and don’t become annoying. Also, we learn the source of the Xavier Virus name – which I won’t spoil here. It is a little joke for geeks and nerds. It made me chuckle.

All in all, this was an excellent continuation of the The Hunger series. Book 2 closed off a few smaller story arcs while opening a larger one. I am very much looking forward to Book 3!

Narration: Wayne June is a great voice for Lance, who is a pretty average guy. Wayne brings Lance to life with his emotions and his humor. I can’t imagine another narrator portraying Lance. Wayne also has a variety of voices for the ladies and other men. He does a great gruff old geezer and a crazy radio codger.

Good series

I like the characters in this series. Of course with zombie/ vampire books, you never know when you might lose someone you like. I like how we keep bumping into characters that we met in book 1. Of course some of them are characters we hate. Well done. I’m moving onto book 3 next.
