Publisher's Summary

In the world of strength and conditioning, learning how to move others not just physically, but also psychologically and emotionally is paramount to getting the most out of them. People are the ultimate performance variable, and understanding how to effectively blend knowledge of proper training with the nuances of human behavior is integral to helping athletes achieve their ultimate goals. Unfortunately, while much attention has been given to the science of physical training, little attention has been given to the science of communication.

Conscious Coaching: The Art and Science of Building Buy-In bridges this gap. Listeners learn the foundational principles of improving relationships, enhancing engagement, and gaining the trust of athletes through targeted communication. And, every bit as important, listeners also learn concrete strategies to apply these principles in day-to-day coaching situations they will inevitably encounter.

The result is a game-changing book that has been used by professional sports teams, Fortune 500 companies, Universities, multinational coaching organizations and the United States Special Forces that sets the stage for coaches and leaders of all kinds to create a culture of success not only within sport, but also beyond. Conscious Coaching is a movement and its time has come.

Narration was distracting.

Very much enjoyed the book and found the material insightful and useful. I’m certain it will go far to improve my own coaching of my clients and the coaching of my staff.

I’ve only listened to a handful of audio books but am beginning to appreciate it more when the author reads the book her/himself. The character voices on this one were unnecessary and annoying at times.

Resourceful, Wholesome, & Honest

It's quite common throughout the book for the author to reference supplemental material for which he bases his book on. Don't just take the author's word for it. He references his research and findings so you the skeptic can also see for yourself.

To be the best coach you must first master yourself. Be wholesome and acknowledge, accept, and improve your areas of opportunity. This is the method to teach others organically and not treat others like "robots". I felt like this was the bread and butter of the book.

Finally, the words written by the author were simple, honest, and easy to understand.

Now onto my next @audible listen of "The Upside of Your Dark Side" which was reference by @coach_brettb.

Great content but cringeworthy audio

I absolutely love the information in this book this the 5 stars. But the audio makes it near unbearable to listen to at times. If you have the option please do yourself a favor and get the hard copy.

A wonderful book to change minds and lives

This book is incredibly well crafted to be a resource for coaches in any sport, at any level, at any point in their careers. As a new coach myself I am always looking for ways to make myself better and help my athletes. I love so many of the concepts coach Brett talks about and I will recommend this to any coach looking to improve their connections to their athletes and their general expertise.

Great book on communication & building trust

This book should be read by all people, not just coaches. It helps provide context and insight to how people interact why they might act a particular way, and how to optimally respond to achieve the end goal each individual is seeking. This is a book about human interaction with communication the critical connection.

A roadmap for leaders

I like the examples given through story telling. This book is ideal for individuals in charge of groups or any leadership position. I believe the author shows how this can be applied to all kinds of coaching industries.

A tedious listening experience

It's rare that I don't get past the first hour of an audiobook but 'Oh My God!' this was tedious.
It's often a bad omen when someone starts out their book chapter with a bible quote. Worse yet was quoting the so-called motivational speaker but actual religious bible pusher Joyce Mayer.
I don't care if the author thinks the term 'buy-in' is overused or abused. He does nothing to fully clarify how that is so or why he thinks he has it right. He goes on about it at length.
The childhood story was painful to listen to, even on double speed. Not remotely interesting and I spaced out. I may have missed all the promised good stuff later on but I could not proceed any further.
Thankfully, audible offer exchanges on any and all audiobooks purchased otherwise it would have been a wasted credit.

I didn't like the voice character changes.

For me it interfered with the tone of the book, and therefore my listening experience. It was a little distracting to me.

Very valuable book

There’s so much value in this book. Any coaches should spend time reading it and applying the principles to their world.

I just wish the narrator hadn’t felt the need to do accents for anyone he was quoting. At best it was distracting, at worst It was borderline offensive.

Read the book first

Although the audiobook was amazing, I was left feeling like I should of read the book, instead of listening. I think the audiobook would be a refresher for people who have read it. Alot of great information. If you're a coach or PT this is a must!!!

Fantastic toolbox for any coach

This is a great exploration of how communication and understanding what drives individuals is so important when trying to coach/manage/teach individuals. Brett's frank account of his own life and turning point lead the reader/listener to review their own experiences and perceived failures. This book is a necessary tool for any individual who finds themselves coaching in the 21st century.

Great book for coaches and workplace managers.

This book avoids jargon and gets to the core of understanding different personality types and how to form a lasting connection with each of them. It also is helpful to understand colleagues in your workplace and how to foster better relationships.

Must have in your collection!

this book is a fantastic tool. I am about to listen to it again as the first time I just listened and didn't take any notes so I wasn't distracte. I am also looking at purchasing a hard copy of this book as I think it will be much easier to quickly refer back to sections.

use this book to transform the way you communicate for the better!

I have also referred it to my staff that I am mentoring as a tool as well!

Good content .... bad accents

As an Australian we have heard many bad attempts ..... this one is up there with the worst.

The use of third persons in the reading is very distracting and diminishes the content

great book

Great book and insights. Read it twice already and will definitely come back to it often. Voice acting was a little distracting though.
