Publisher's Summary

Survival can be a lonely existence...or not. The reality of the situation always comes down to a simple decision: What kind of world do you want to build?

The survivors have come to settle in the mountains of Wyoming, fighting day in and day out to establish a home for themselves in a near-empty world. Things are good at first; scavenging is a workable, short-term solution that seems to be providing all they need.

But they know that it’s only a matter of time before the food runs out. They need to scramble to find a sustainable solution before the clock stops, and for a little handful of people up in the mountains, the odds don’t seem very favorable.

Further south, a new band of people migrates across the map, running on fumes and searching desperately for a place to settle. All around them, as resources run thin, the world grows colder and more violent.

It’s getting worse out there, always getting worse, and it’s starting to look like survival might just depend on how violent they’re willing to get....

This Will Have You Belly Laughing, Crying, and...

This Will Have You Belly Laughing, Crying, and Everywhere In Between

Gibbs. Sweet, sweet Gibbs. You might easily be one of the most enjoyable characters I’ve ever had the chance of listening to. You magnificent son of a… I realize now that I can’t write a review anywhere near where I want to AND still have it postable on anywhere outside of my blog. Audible and Amazon would take the review I want to write down in a heartbeat if I wrote it the way that I wanted to. There’s a warning in the opening of this book and I’ll give a similar one here. If you are offended by cursing, especially creative and often hilarious outbursts by an ex-Marine – this book is NOT for you.

Commune Book 2 had me howling in my car with laughter on numerous occasions. I curse and have no issues with it. But Gibbs made me have a new-found appreciation for cursing in new and unique ways. Seriously, the effort and research that Gayou put into writing a character as ‘colorful’ as Gibbs deserves a standing ovation.

The story in this was darn near perfection. Seriously, Gayou is able to tell about four different stories (that in some worlds would have been split up into four separate books) and he does it darn well. The opening story recounts the start of the Super Fun Time… Explitive Bus. Even the story about how the bus got its name is hilarious and perfect. That story was utterly fascinating and had me wishing my three-hour drive was longer. Jump from that to the scene in Denver (I won’t spoil it, but it was intense and heartfelt in a way that had me in actual tears while listening). Now the group on the bus meets a stranger – this leads into yet another story and more “retelling” through the eyes of interviews and the book of the Commune. I won’t even get into the final two stories because that would ruin the slow build that Gayou has throughout.

Seriously, Gayou has this way of sucking you in to his story by making you laugh your face off – then all of a sudden you’re crying actual tears because something happens – then not a few chapters later you’re not sure what’s going to happen to the gang. And then we go back to laughing and anywhere in between. The number of emotions that Commune Book 2 had me go through should win some sort of award.

And speaking of Awards – R.C. effing Bray deserves one for the telling of this story. Holy, you know what. (Trying not to swear in a review of a book where swearing is nearly a comma is harder than I thought. I feel like a foul-mouthed grandma around her grandkids after stabbing herself with a knitting needle). I loved the first Commune book and I don’t think that I would have ever read it had Bray not narrated it. Now I was prepped and ready for Book 2. I thought for sure it would let me down a little because of how much I loved the first book. The combo of Gayou’s writing style and Bray’s delivery absolutely seals this book for me. Commune Book Two’s narration needs to win some sort of award. Even if it’s the Fun Time Bus Award. I think Bray stepped it up a notch in this story. I don’t know if it was Gayou’s writing or just the passion in the story. This one will be one I don’t forget for a long time.

I was voluntarily provided with a free copy of this book. It has not affected my review in any way. If you enjoyed this review, please vote for it! Every vote helps.

Oh so very good - the BEST

This series is too good to explain. One of the best I have ever read or listened to. The first book was five star plus wonderful and the second book was just as good, maybe better. The Jackson WY commune, called the Bowl, now has 19 residents. They have tackled many problems in the new order of things, but now they are short on food and winter is coming. The listener continues to get to know the fantastic characters who are very human - they have strengths and weaknesses - they are very likable and also can be very unlikable at times. Gibbs, a former Marine is the most interesting character in this series. He curses a blue streak and uses inventive curses for every occasion. The head of the Bowl is Jake who continues to be enigmatic. Even after book 2, his background is unknown to the people closest to him - and definitely unknown to the listener. All of the book is interesting, but the last few chapters which include an awesome running gun battle are riveting. I could barely breathe due to the intensity.

The writer is extremely talented. He is a good wordsmith, writes great dialog, creates extraordinary characters, and can tell a great story. I could not stop listening. I just finished book 2 and it is 2:15 am. I listened non-stop from beginning to the end. It is a good thing I am retired and have the luxury of listening to my heart's content.

The writer was very fortunate to have RC Bray as the narrator. This is a great book and it deserves a great narrator. Bray is the best and gives a truly remarkable performance. He brings the story and the characters to life. His tone, cadence, accents, understanding of the story/characters, and his fantastic voice make this book even more special. Please don't miss this series, but start with Book 1. Now I have to wait until Book 3 and the wait is going to be agonizing. I admit, however, that I am a little apprehensive after listening to the end of Book 2 and the epilog and the excerpt from Book 3. There are some dark things happening and I am afraid that in the next installment bad things may happen to the characters/friends that I have come to love and this will cause me too much angst. Please, Mr. Gayou, don't let bad things happen to the Bowl and it inhabitants!!!!'

GAHHHH!!!!!

for the love of my sanity why do books like this have to end? I've cried from laughter, but my lip in anger, choked up from disgust and bounced from excitement while listening to this book. amazing story and performance. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

Great addition to the series

What other book might you compare Commune: Book Two to and why?

No book, but if you enjoyed The Walking Dead's later seasons, when it was less about zombies and more about what happens to humanity, this book is for you.

Any additional comments?

It is rare that the second book in a series is as strong as the first, but this is an exception. Again, a very plausible story line of what could happen to humanity in a post apocalyptic world.

One of The Best Books I’ve Listened To Period .

I rarely review . If it’s a book I don’t like I just move on to the next , if I like it, people usually cover the high points so I just leave my stars . I’ve listened to almost 200 books on Audible and I don’t know how many on Overdrive and I would easily put Commune book 2 in my top 10 .

The writer has some great skills . He doesn’t use cheap logic and dumb decisions to push a dime a dozen action scenes . You really love the characters, it’s like you get to know them . It’s a large cast , but each character is unique and identifiable. I simply can’t recommend he book enough .

The narration is spot on . Bray as always does an incredible job and brings the book alive . The story this time around is told from the perspective of a kinda grouchy retired Marine and Bray delivers the lines perfectly, parts will have you doubled over in laughter .

Nothing else really needs to be said . It’s a solid story with great depth and sets up the finale masterfully . One of the best credits I’ve ever spent .

Better than it has any right to be.

It is my opinion that RC Bray is one of the best narrators in the business today. I'm not going to spoil any of the book here, but just do yourself a favor and grab the first book, then grab this one. They are worth the credits.

You are getting me addicted here...

I love this post-apocalyptic story. The characters are very believable.

Thank goodness there are no zombies.

Another great story brought to life by R.C. Bray.

Post Apocalypse CHECK, R.C Bray CHECK

Another great post apocalypse story. Narrated by R.C Bray it already a winner, Only this one has no Zombies or Monsters save for the ones we become once civilisation collapses and there's no more law but what we make for ourselves. You will laugh but you may also cry.

The marine character is so freaking entertaining & RC Bray brings him to life. He really is my favourite narrator. A great apocalypse novel with humour, grit & a bit of prepper “how to” which I am oddly obsessed with.

Wow - what an amazing read!!

This book blew me away. I have read/listened to well over 100 audio books and this book is easily the BEST I've listened to yet. The story is fantastic. Book 1 was really good, but this book took it to a whole new level. The characters are incredibly realistic, and the narrater (R.C. Bray) brings them to life perfectly. I laughed so many times, enjoying the hilarious outbursts of one particular character and I was on the edge of my seat a lot of times too! This book really makes you think too - about how we behave as people, and how we choose the paths presented to us. I can't wait to listen to the next one - I wish it was available now. I highly recommend this book - you'll love it!
