Bestselling Author John Piper Examines End-Times Theology and Scripture’s Command to Love the Second Coming of Christ

Many people are curious about the second coming of Christ—what it will be like, when it will happen, and what signs will come first. In his latest book, Come, Lord Jesus, John Piper addresses all these issues, but stresses that those who love the second coming of Christ will receive a crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

Piper examines key biblical texts around the second coming while encouraging listeners toward a Spirit-awakened affection for Jesus’s return. He also explores important questions such as, Could Jesus come at any moment, or must certain events happen first?; What does it mean to “Watch, for you know neither the day nor the hour”?; and What should we be doing when he comes? With a special focus on the teachings of Jesus, Paul, and Peter, Come, Lord Jesus portrays not only the glory of the revealed Savior, but also the glorification of the resurrected saints.

  • Essential, Christ-Exalting Eschatology: Piper guides Christians to examine whether they long for the appearing of Christ, and what this event will mean for Christians, non-Christians, and for Christ himself
  • Careful Exegesis: Piper pays close and precise attention to the words of Scripture, especially with a view to showing how Jesus and Paul were of one mind about the second coming
  • Practical: The final 5 chapters are devoted to how Christians should live in this age between the first and second appearing of Christ
  • Written by Bestselling Author John Piper: Author of Don’t Waste Your Life, Desiring God, and Providence

Waited for a book like this for a long time!

I have wanted to read a book that focuses solely on Christ's second coming without all the "Left Behind" theology mixed in. This book is a straightforward look at what Scripture says about Christ's return, including what things that must happen prior to His return and what Christ said about the timing of His return. Read it and treasure Christ and His Second Coming!

A Tapestry Texts that Aid Love for Christ’s Apoearing

Piper is good. Pure and simple. I appreciate the meditations, as well as many of the conclusions, though, I would have loved a text that engaged arguments and perspectives more thoroughly. Regardless, it led me to long for Christ’s appearing even more. For that, it was worth it!

Insightful, Reasonable, to the point

A breath of fresh air among end times books. Piper focused on what mattered and little on arguments or potential interpretations of things. Part 3 was an excellent help for those who seek to begin living with the end in mind.

Another precious golden tread from Piper.

Pastor John Piper has blessed me again in this collection of scriptural teachings on the second coming of Jesus the Christ. In amazing, but typical, Piper-fashion, he skillfully organizes his materials and then guides the reader to grasp the golden thread of truth he has discovered and then pulls us along, in and out of writers, verses, and translated meanings to show us how that truth is beautifully woven through all of God’s holy word. I am baffled to think how these vitally important understandings can lay there bound in the pages of my Bible without my awareness. Piper’s gifts for unearthing treasures from the scriptures is from God and I thank Him for allowing me to see and savor and joyfully use these truths as I strive to share and live for God’s glory. So much gratitude to Pastor John and to the Holy Spirit who works in him.

Refreshing

Piper hit the mark on what the return of the Lord is all about. While I disagreed with his endtime view, it was refreshing to hear his loving and gracious tone and to point everything back towards loving the day of His return

Great book, just don't get the Audiobook

This is a book where I think the author should have read it. It was like he was reading a menu in a store instead of being excited about the things he was reading. John Piper is a pastor and could have done a much better job of narrating this book.

Scared but excited !

I see I need more patience and try to control less !!
Why do we have to wait so long ? My life seems forever even thou God says it’s but a moment.
If he would have came already I probably would be one of the lost.
I’m glad he has not come yet so me and many others have time to get ready. God wishes that none should perish!
Thank you father God for your gentleness and patience !!

disappointing narration

Narration was too emotionless to do the content justice. The coming of Christ should illicit a positive emotional response, which felt lacking in the narration.

Come Lord Jesus

Discovered the book to be dry and somewhat boring. Seem to-be all scripture readings.
