Publisher's Summary

Paul Shapiro gives you a front-row seat for the wild story of the race to create and commercialize cleaner, safer, sustainable meat - real meat - without the animals. From the entrepreneurial visionaries to the scientists' workshops to the big business boardrooms - Shapiro details that quest for clean meat and other animal products and examines the debate raging around it.

Since the dawn of Homo sapiens some quarter million years ago, animals have satiated our species' desire for meat. But with a growing global population and demand for meat, eggs, dairy, leather, and more, raising such massive numbers of farm animals is woefully inefficient and takes an enormous toll on the planet, public health and certainly the animals themselves.

But what if we could have our meat and eat it, too? The next great scientific revolution is underway - discovering new ways to create enough food for the world's ever-growing, ever-hungry population.

Ingenious, terrific and prophetic book

Truly loved this book! It's so hart-warming to hear that there already are many start-up's distrupting agricultural business. As a devoted vegeterian and animal lover I simply cannot wait to see all these products hiting the market soon. Animal-free meat, dairy and leather is the only future for human kind and our planet!! The quicker people understand it the better off they'll be along with all the animals that suffer in the proccess.

Excellent Narrator, Excellent Content

An awesome look into the future of food and what clean meat can do for everyone on the planet. The author does a great job taking a neutral look at the industry even though he has a background in animal advocacy. Highly recommend this read, works great on 1.5x!

A Sneak Peak into the Future

It's amazing to get such an insider view of an industry that is rapidly emerging and not into the mainstream yet. It really inspired me to dig deeper and learn more about the advances of cellular-based agriculture. Definitely worth the read!

The Future of Food is Bright!

This is an incredible book for all vegans, effective altruists, and non-vegans interested in the future of food. Shapiro analyzes the leading companies in the industry & provides personal anecdotes that help readers better understand the mission & culture of each company.

Additionally, the audiobook reader does a fantastic job.

Game changing

I will be now doing tons of more research into where these companies are now and trying to figure out ways I can get involved in this amazing movement. I with I had a degree in molecular biology!

Changed my life

Partly because of this book I chose a molecular and cellular grad program. I am inspired. Via sync, I’ve gone through the print and audio versions several times and will do more. It’s a favorite. Get it, or get the Kindle version for just 99 cents and then add the audio, as you’ll often want to jump on a device, see passages, and search to see more for yourself. IV is the bleeding edge; the first clean meat conference was just two weeks ago. Get this.

A Good Idea in Need of Promotion

I was both relieved and excited at the concept of cellular meat and other proteins. Mr. Shapiro presented several motives for embracing this approach to human food production, but I felt more passion for the movement was needed. The development and acceptance of this food source is vital to life on Earth and life in colonies on other planets.
Clean Meat is very informative, but I think more could have been done to convince the reluctant ones on how GREAT all of this will be for them. Their mouths should be watering as they wait for these products to hit the market.

Gives hope for the future!

Paul Shapiro provides a compelling case that clean meat will change the world. He introduces us to the technology and the people who are harnessing it. I'm more optimistic than ever that we are close to the tipping point of a world without farm animal slaughter. Thanks for motivating me to learn more.
