These five chilling tales make perfect night time listening - and, for the fearful, can be heard in a group, rather than experienced as solo bedtime reading. Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, W. L. George, A. M. Burrage, and Guy de Maupassant provide the terrifying text; Ian Holm and Julie Peasgood provide the spoken spooks.Public Domain (P)2006 Horse's Mouth Horror Scary Classics

As you can tell by my title, I am rather tired of Dickens' the Signalman, there are many other less overused classic ghost stories and one of them could have been used in place of Dickens, after all, there are only 5 stories.

The Signalman. . . again

This book would have been better if some of the audio didn’t skip. The stories were good though.

It’s an ok book

The recording is defective. It is garbled just at the climactic moment of the short story "The Waxworks". A great pity, since the story is very creepy. I would have purchased one of the other spook story collections had I realized this one was ruined.

Other than that, it is a pip. I greatly enjoy having a story read by Ian Holm.

Climax of The Waxworks is spoiled

There are several places where the recording skips, like a scratched record, one such skip ruins the ending of one of the tales.

A Little disappointed
