Publisher's summary

So far so bad....

Sinjin Sinclair might have been estranged from his family and friends, but that doesn’t mean he stopped caring about them. Learning of a possible threat to his niece, Emma, Sinjin has his own card to play.

Meanwhile, Emma finds herself increasingly attracted to her professor, Stone, who might not be all he appears. There is also the charismatic Clark, who seems to be vying for her attention.

And what will it mean for Bryn when she receives a visionary dream where she learns her sister, Jolie, long suspected to be dead, might actually be alive and lost in a place called the Abyss?

Adventure, Vampires and More

Sinjin Sinclair remains the leader and protector of the Vampires. Having a soft spot for those he loves, Sinjin goes off to the magical school his niece is attending. There he meets several professors who are both intriguing, suspect, and odd. As listeners we see each character develop into essential pieces of the story. It is interesting to hear Sinjin struggle with his past and present. Mallory is gifted at developing interesting and intriguing characters from beginning to end. The storyline is well-written and the plot twists are well-executed. This is a light listen with some twists and interesting characters.

The author, H.P. Mallory delivers another side and adventure of Sinjin Sinclair with rich and detailed imagery. The storyline is not overly complicated, and it is riddled with humor and danger. Her plot twists are well crafted. I have had the pleasure of reading and hearing many other books by H. P. Mallory and I find her writing to be both magical and intriguing.

The narrator, Logan Anara, is fantastic! I love his different accents and he slips on each character easily and completely. He keeps the momentum of the story moving quickly and with energy. He has a solid grasp of each character and projects those personalities accurately and vividly.

Overall, this book has it all – humor, danger, intrigue, and romance!

The Abyss, Staff Meeting, and Dance Proposals? Oh my!

In book two of this H. P. Mallory series, we jump right into our Scottish friend we met at the end of the first book trying to protect a very special woman in their enslavement! Then some magical mushrooms come into play. You know, normal stuff for the Abyss. The world is rock with lore and creatures, the author now showing how characters are even further connected in different ways. There isn’t as much physical action in this layer to the story, but the wit and charm was top-notch!
Once again, the magic school is so engaging. And we get chapters from Professor Smoke Show’s… (dang it! I keep getting that “wrong”) perspective. His abilities and true reasons for working at the school are revealed. I adore his unique brand of cockiness and his voice is really fun! And as a teacher, I feel for him when he’s voluntold to chaperon the dance! Ha!
Sinjin is still on fire as being this confident but still grounded leader and protector of the vampire coalition. He always entertains me.
The other characters here start to go on their own incredible journeys as well.
Emma is still by far my favorite. She is darling, compassionate, wistfully curious, but not weak. And it’s nice to have a high school story amidst the deadly supernatural threats to break it up without the whole story losing its fiery pacing.
Plus, any scene I can hear the ground great Logan Anare read about bra cup sizes naturally makes me know something was done right!
And, to no surprise, my favorite male audiobook narrator can do no wrong. Every voice is on point: from goth high school girls, snake familiars, elementals, sexy professors… he makes me feel I’m going through this story with every character. A true master of his craft.
I look forward to the third installment to the point I might shatter a coffee mug… on accident.
