Amazing!

I have known, respected and even revered China as an incredibly ancient and storied people for a long time and this book has only increased my awe, fascination and appreciation for the country and its resilient people.

Might Be Okay For Children...Maybe

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Was this meant for grade school children? If so, I guess it might be okay. But I was hoping for something geared toward intelligent adults.

Would you ever listen to anything by Adam Brown again?

I honestly don't know. I couldn't get past the first ten minutes.

Would you be willing to try another one of Sarah Moore’s performances?

No. Not at all.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

This was definitely not the book I was hoping for. It's stylistically elementary, and the narration sounds more like it belongs in a first-grade classroom than in a serious, engaged book about Asian history. Listening to it is like sitting in one of those horrible history classes back in grade school. Ick.

Government propaganda without any flow...

I was so very interested in hearing a condensed version of Chinese history to begin a process of learning about the country when I started this audiobook. However, it became very clear early on that I would struggle mightily to tolerate listening to it for any real length of time. First, the story is not well-read and difficult to listen to. Second, the timelines in the book jump around quite a bit with no real flow established or logical movement through history. Finally, there is quite a bit of propaganda spewn throughout the reading as if I was trying to be convinced of the greatness of China as I listened. Instead of learning about China's history, I was dragged through a mind-numbing session of opinion after opinion with no analytical framework or perspective on the actual history of the country. This audiobook is essentially trash. Any positive reviews you see here are placed either by the publisher's or author's minions trying to prop up an awful product.

Needs a new narrator

The concept of the book sounds great and you can tell the author did plenty of research.
Unfortunately, the narrator ruins it. It seems the narrator tries to make up for the “textbook” like writing by over emPHAsizing certain words that don’t need it. In fact, it detracts from the book and is downright confusing.
I listened to it on 1.3x speed just to get through the book faster. What a shame.

Terrible narration

Couldn’t get past first 10 minutes. Sounds like a robot. Just sounded like a primer for an exam study. Returned it.

almost perfect

I found a few errors in this book but it doesn't affect the information that author is really trying to deliver. I was educated and I enjoyed at the same time. Happy. :)

Learning about East Asia

This kind of an educational book. I did have some questions about the kind of government China had before. This book just answered my questions.
