Avoid- the third book really didn't get better...

Parasite was intriguing, a little slow. Symbiont was just filler but a reviewer said "well, it was supposed to be 2 books but apparently the publishers wanted to stretch it to 3 books" and I certainly could believe that. I wanted to finish the series and get answers to the questions like "Why do the sleepwalkers know her name?"

Instead I got more filler, more contrived scenes, no answers, more confusion over what the heck Sal's dad knew or did, and more annoyance with Sal.

Very disappointing as there were interesting ideas laid out in the first novel.

Many unanswered questions

While the premise of this series is an excellent one for exploring themes of identity (If a tapeworm takes over your brain, are you still you? Who do you want to be?), the execution of it falls a little flat in this third installment. Some questions have have lingered from the first book go unanswered, while others are tied up in too neat of a bow. I'm left thinking that the story could have been told in one or two books instead of three. Or maybe it should be four or five. (See what I mean? Hard to tell.) I don't want to give the impression that the book is poorly written, because it's really quite well written—just not structured properly, perhaps. The narrator struggles with one character's British accent, and that was quite distracting. Still, I'm optimistic enough to read the author's future works, and see where she goes from here.

Mira freaking Grant, can I just learn how to better write from you? Or just be your friend, seriously? I love every book of hers I've ever read. And this series? This was my favorite. I have already recommended this series to others but I needed to write this to hopefully sway even more people. Not to mention Christine Lankin is a stunningly good vocal performer. Do you like cunning heroines who do what they want no matter how bad an idea is? Or what about realistic romantic relationships that don't feel like they're shoehorned in? Maybe a little bit of oh, crap how's this going to work out tension? Stop reading my lame review, go download this audiobook so you can feel oddly attracted to a female doing a male British accent like me.

Performance was good, storyline was lacking

I couldn't wait for this trilogy to be over. I was intrigued by the concept but nothing really interesting ever happened. All of the encounters were lackluster and the resolution of the book was too perfect. It was like the author didn't want to upset people so she wrapped everything in a nice little bow when there should have been some controversy. The entire time the characters were discussing controversial thought topics, yet nothing controversial happened in the plot. There was no sense of drama or loss in this "dramatic" series. I was expecting a great ending but was very let down. If I had the option to go back and listen to the trilogy again then I would decline and use my time elsewhere. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. I would rate it as mediocre at best.

Cliche?

Oh you know, just your stereotypical ending to zombie"esk" tapeworm outbreak. Everyone lives happily ever after, and the bad guy dies. Blah, Blah, Blah..... I enjoyed the series, but I was just hoping for something a little more than pizzazz!

What an Amazing Series!

This entire series has been a pleasure to read and listen to. Mira Grant has a beautiful storytelling ability that attaches you to her characters. Her underlying social consciousness themes makes her a favorite author of mine.

Same as book 2

Unfortunately, the story in Chimera so closes resembles that of the prior I ended up finishing this in annoyance. I think there were a total of a half-dozen characters who I spent the last 30 hours listening to that never really grew as people. This had the premise to be good, but the scope was too hyper focused in some places and not macroscopic enough elsewhere to really make it worthwhile.

Pretty solid conclusion to a pretty solid series

I enjoyed the first book immensely. So I listened to the rest. This book was solid. There were a few portions I found a bit forced, but overall, I was satisfied. Sal is a solid character. The narrator was very good and the audio quality was perfect. If you’re hankering for a solid end of the world saga, this one isn’t the greatest, but it is good.

Everything about this book was painful.

I haven't liked this series sense the first book, the second was very meh. The worse thing about this book is how the author needs to reiterate plot points five hundred times, maybe cause even she realizes this story is going nowhere. This book tries to turn you against humans and thinking that the worms deserve a chance to live. These worms are killing millions, including themselves, but all this is worth it because one in a million could survive, stupid. When the main character finds a little, very annoying, worm girl automatically makes her a mother, sure. The story, the delivery, the characters are all undeveloped and boring. The fact that the author also needs to put in this stupid, "Don't go out alone," book is evidence that she's is just trying to fluff the story until the end.
I normally love this author, I loved all the News Flesh and the first of these books, but I think she finally checked out of this series and is cashing in on her ability to extend a book with bad story telling.

Great finale

This installment was a nice wrap up to the series and much better than the 2nd book. The performance was great

Great story

I've really enjoyed this series. it's exciting and thoughtful. The only downside is that the otherwise excellent reader is very very bad at accents!
