Publisher's summary

With Juri in control and everything in absolute chaos, Lela plunges into the depths of hell to free Malachi from creatures that have waited decades to exact their revenge. But the Judge has her own way of doing things, and Lela must work with Ana, the new Captain, who has a very personal mission of her own. Together, they infiltrate the most horrifying realm either has yet encountered in the Shadowlands - the bitter landscape ruled by the Mazikin.

The stakes could not be higher, and Lela must accept the help - and love - of people she barely knows or trusts. As alliances and loyalties shift and she realizes the soul she came to save isn't the only one in need of rescue, can Lela summon the strength to see the fight through to the very end?

Best in the Series

Chaos closes the Guards of the Shadowlands with a satisfying conclusion and plenty of action. Those who liked the first book especially will appreciate that most of Chaos takes place off Earth in the afterlife realms.

Story: Juri has stolen Malachi's body and sent the guard to the Mazakin City - a place of endless torture by the entrapped Mazakin beaasts. Desperate to get Malachi back, Lela makes a deal with the Judge - she'll go to the Mazakin dome, kill the queen, and destroy the portal. Once that's done, she can have Malachi back. Ana, still bitter over the loss of Takashi, goes with Lela. But what the women find there is more than just Malachi - it is a land of horrors revisted daily and with no escape - for eternity. Armed with on a few weapons, going up against a whole city, allies will betray, enemies become friends, and lost lovers reunited.

Chaos was a very good read - the action was nearly non stop. I greatly appreciated how author Sarah Fine allowed the story to unwind slowly, without what could have been a very cliche "go in, kick butt, save hero, save world, escape." She escalates the action at each step, with plenty of twists and turns, discoveries and battles. Just when you think the battle is over, something new happens or Lela and her crew have an all new battle on their hands.

We get a lot of insight on a lot of the characters - from Lela's mother, Takashi's previous life, even more about Malachi, who suffers quite a bit in this novel. This really is Lela's story though - she drives all the action and does a lot of the saving. Malachi and crew spend much of the book either injured or out of the action. So here we truly have a heroine who is her own action hero.

I listened to the audible version and thought the narrator did an ok, but not great, job. She had the right age sounding voice but the accents, from Japanese to Spanish, all tended to sound like bad Transylvania accent from a Vampire movie.

This was definitely the best book in the series and worth the read to the end.

Another series comes to a close.

Would you listen to Chaos again? Why?

Yes. While it wasn't the best series I've read, Guards of the Shadowlands was still pretty good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hmmm. I liked Lela and Malachi both. Both very strong characters. Lela did seem a bit immature at times, even after all she'd been through, but she is a teenager after all.

Which scene was your favorite?

Well, if I told you that, it might spoil some things. :)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How much hell would you go through to save the one you love?

Any additional comments?

Amazing Narration!

The narrator truly brings the characters to life throughout this whole series. Kudos to her.

This was a strong conclusion. Plot wise, this series is strong. It's exciting. But it was VERY violent at times. Also cheesy angsty. But the action made up for it.

Final in a fantastic series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Chaos to be better than the print version?

Yes! I'm a print book kinda girl but the audio version just does something for this book! I love it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Chaos?

Lela's choice towards the end and Malachi's reaction.
Also when Lela finds Malachi. That tore my heart apart!

Which scene was your favorite?

The last. It was long long long over due!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love can be pure hell

Any additional comments?

This story. Oh my goodness! I hate this was the last book but it was a perfect ending to a fantastic ride!!
In this book we are now in pure hell. The Mazakin dome. Lela and Ana must find Malachi, kill the queen and destroy the portal. But doing all this has alot of dips along the way. They find friends in places they never expected to find, and Ana is finally reunited with her lover. This story is filled with a lot of butt kicking, action and love. Lela is a heroine to rival all heroines in this story-line. Yea she gets hurt alot as usual but she still kicks butt and takes names! The way this story grows and teaches us about each of the characters and their back story is fantastic! It ties everything together and also makes you love characters you otherwise wouldn't care about. The battle scenes are epic and the love scenes are tender. I would love if this story became a movie!

Wow! I love this Series!

I'm still reeling from the loss of adrenaline after finishing this book. It's fast-paced with a lot of WOW! and NOOOOO! and YESSS!!! and WHY??? and ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

It's a great closer to an excellent YA Fantasy/Paranormal trilogy about the underworld. I'm going to dig up everything else written by Sarah Fine, because I really enjoyed her storytelling.
