Publisher's Summary

If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it's Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she's hunted one to protect the other. Safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the torn veil between the worlds. Creatures like her.

But the lines are blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets, Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the posh high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too fast to cover up.

Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner Detective Alex Creed investigate the deaths. But all they have are questions, bodies, and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations.

As the violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: Are the victims still human? Were they ever?

Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire series.

What a Ride!! Action & More Action!

This is most definitely a Page-Turner, with Delia getting into Soooo Much trouble. I really enjoyed Officer Casey he is a Hoot, loyal, Brave, Movie Screen Obsessed in such Wounderful ways. Narrator did a good job on Storyline and Characters. I am aware of books 1& 2 , but do not know if there will be more books in this Series.

Not just Drangons but Dragon shifters and so much

Dahlia staking out the portal hidden under the house of the murdered family. It’s a heavily used hub to travel back and forth to Dahlias home world. Humans are combusting from taking a drug not manufactured on earth. Dahlia, Evans and Detective Alex Creed (who has his own reasons to look for creatures in the night) try to keep the cities residences safe. Now there’s more threats other than your normal murders and mayhem! I loved this book! It sounds like there’s going to be a book 3? I will be checking (constantly) for book 3! If you haven’t read or listened to book 1 I do recommend you do! Great series! It keeps getting better and better!

More Fantasy/Mystery Action

Like Book 1, this sequel has plenty of action, drama, mystery, and plot twists. It also has a LOT of internal dialogue by our protagonist, most of it immature, repetitive, and contradictory. And again, the 15-hour Audible version would have been improved if stripped to 10-12 hours. Still, if you're patient you will be rewarded with a satisfying conclusion to this storyline, with openings for a 3rd Book.

Great Tale

Loved it! The first book hooked me in and this one kept me firmly in Sentinel City with Dahilia. She has such a huge job and sometimes gets no help from those who should be helping. She does get help from some humans she has befriended, but sometimes she gets suspicions too. She is trying to protect the ones she loves and that can sometimes be at cross purpose of keeping her worlds secrets. The penalty for others learning of her world is death, and she does not like that. In this story a drug hits the streets that cause people to mutate into horrible, blood thirsty beasts that can go up in flames. She learns where the drug comes from and tries to track it down. Come to find out it comes from an elder dragon who can morph into any person, he attacks Dahilia’s partner Alex and she goes on the run. She has a human sidekick, Casey, who helps and finds out his sister is taken to Dahilia’s world where she is not welcome. The narrator did an awesome job keeping me interested all through the performance. I love when a narrator uses the sarcasm that an author puts into the book. She did it with style and flair. This book is worth the read or listen depending on your preference. I received a free copy of this audio book from Story Origin for an honest review.

YESS...YESSS...YESSSS

I have been a long time fan of C.L. Schneider-falling in love with the author's style with the Crown of Stones Series. When I read that she was putting out present day, urban fantasy I knew that it would become an automatic buy. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. While I consumed each book in the series (I have had the pleasure of read all three..so far..I hope) this was the first I actually also listened to on audio. Cassandra King embodies Dahlia Nite (the main character). C.L. Schneider's prose and the narrator's expression is seamless. Ms. King was able to assign significant tones and speech pattern differences to the vast array of characters within the book. I listen to my audiobooks on my exercise walks and I found myself going longer and harder as I was caught up in the action and developing story line. The banter between Nite and Evans comes to life and I found myself smiling and laughing out loud all over again as I heard the many by-plays between the characters. The monsters take on such vibrance in this book it was easy to get lost in the world of Sentinel City. I just went back and bought the first audiobook in this series so I can hear Cassandra King again and can't wait to hear the third book too... C.L. and Cassandra if you read this...PLEASE make it quick.

able to pick up this one and feel excited

Dahlia Nite had returned. I was not disappointed. You wont be either. In a simple nut shell she's strong and determined. This time around maybe we can add a little confused. She's not sure if she's hunting the right parties because lately humans have been turning out to be monsters like any she has hunted before. She had to find out what was causing this transformation in the humans. There were a host of characters, vivid images, strong plot line, and determined voices wanting to be heard in the detailed world of Nite Fire and Sentinel City. Dahlia works her way through the violent mystery that had taken hold of her city. Her and her partner, Alex, and trusted friend, Casey works this case from multiple sides. This urban fantasy with a mystery was well written. Cassandra King brings to life Dahlia and the full cast of other worldly and human characters. She lends voice to a new world that has intrigued me and lured me over to the Nite side. ***************** I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. Loved it!

Wow! When I first started Chain Reaction, I had no idea it could get even better than before. Little did I know, it could. It was amazing! C.L. Schneider has done such an amazing job writing this series so far. The characters are amazing! I seriously love Creed and Dahlia. I love Evan too, but those two are kick ass awesome! All of the characters are developed amazingly. It’s hard to believe even the creatures have so much detail. To make this audiobook even better, Cassandra King does such a great job portraying these characters in her narration. Each scene is exquisitely detailed. Every time I read one of Schneider’s book, or listen to one, I feel as if I’m in the action. I love it! I can easily tell which character is which. I can feel all of the emotion behind the scenes. It’s all tangible. I can’t imagine this book being much better than it already is. The overall production is just great. The whole book flows smoothly. The characters are amazing. The action is well portrayed and there is never a dull moment. I am enraptured in this series. Each creature and character just add to the whole story is a new and fun way. I seriously cannot wait to read the next book. Each story just gets better and better. Schneider has such a knack for writing a book that will leave the reader begging for more. Second book Finished; can’t wait for book 3

Chain Reaction, Book 2 in the Nite Fire series continues the story of Dahlia Nite. Just as in the first book I found myself cheering on Dahlia as she protected her adopted city known as Sentinel City. The narrator is one of the best I’ve listen to. She’s able to convince the listener when she she is voicing for male characters just as she’s offering voices for the female characters. Can’t wait for book 3 to be available on Audible.

Next installation of a dark and gritty series

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it. You can read my review of Flash Point, the first book. My opinion of the badassery of the heroine has not changed. So there's no need to go into detail about her past and her character. I like that she's more open with her partner and is actually making friends. Though, losing some too in this world. I also can't talk about the world-building much, since that was done in book one. But we get into even more of the gritty world of the Dragon Elders.  The plot of this one follows suit with the first book - dark, epic, gritty, and cringe-worthy. The special abilities given to the Dragon Shifters with this new drug are amazing, but what they do to the poor humans, is painful to listen to. Also, once the dark plans are revealed, you know not to expect many happy endings in this world.  The narration was great, again. I enjoy the voices and pacing and would continue to listen to this narrator in other books as well.

Great sequel!

Note: This is Book 2 in the series and can work as a stand alone but is much better if read after Book 1. What a fun urban fantasy! I quite enjoyed Book 1 and continued to enjoy the series with Book 2. Dahlia Nite is a wonderfully layered character, sometimes serious, sometimes snarky, sometimes tender, sometimes murderous. I’d enjoy hanging out with her in real life. For this story, Dahlia is hunting elusive prey. At first, it’s really not clear what is going on but spontaneously combusting humans is just not normal. Plus it’s messy and attacks the wrong kind of attention. Dahlia, being a cleaner of sorts, needs to figure this out quick before some human authorities catch wind of the supernatural elements to these deaths. I really like her sidekick Casey Evans. He’s supportive and funny and kind of like her little brother. Plus he’s a cop and isn’t a newbie to weapons and violence. Though this particular case will test his limits and loyalty. How much are you willing to cover up even if it means keeping many humans safe? Then there’s Alex Creed. I really like this character because he’s a little broken yet doesn’t wallow in it. In fact, he just accepts it, shrugs, and carries on. I can see how the events of this story will put him and Dahlia at odds later. I really want things to work out well for both of them, but I fear the series might not allow that (and then just intrigues me to read on). Having a perfect mix of action, reflection, flirtation, weapons, boot stomping, arson, and catching bad guys, this is a worthy addition to the urban fantasy genre. 5/5 stars. The Narration: Cassandra King is a delight to listen to. I feel she channels Dahlia while narrating this book. I also love her voice for Alex Creed, being a bit gravelly and suspicious of the goodness in those around him. Sometimes, I felt the male character voices could use a bit more masculinity. Like sidekick Evans sometimes sounds more like his sister Marnie. Then there’s this rich bloke Bastian Rand with the educated snotty accent and sometimes he sounds like a man and sometimes he sounds like an older woman. However, over all the performance was really good. All the characters had distinct voices and the ladies were all well performed. The pacing was perfect and there were no technical issues with the recording. 4.5/5 stars. I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions.
