When her father orchestrates an engagement for business purposes, Alexis is forced to say yes publicly.

Now I'm the other man in this equation, and despite my reputation as the bad boy of baseball, I learned long ago to stay away from married women. But not everything is as it appears, and she isn't married yet, which forces me to confront my own morals and fears when it comes to relationships. And when she spends time with my family, we both feel how easy life would be together.

She says she wants to be with me, but we have to be careful. If I'm caught looking, it'll ruin both her brand and my reputation.

While I enjoyed the story, I did not expect to have to pay over again just to continue the same book. I feel taken advantage of.

Bate and switch

This story is hard to get invested in. I'll keep going to see if it gets better, but I really hate the premise. Voice acting is fine, world building is good, the characters are unique.

But I hate how the MFC handled everything. She manipulates MMC imo. When he confronts her about the fake engagement and how the situation challenges his beliefs on cheating, MFC proceeds to gaslight MMC, saying if he really feels for her he won't give up on their relationship, should be fine dating in secret, not care if media gets ahold of it, and not care if it looks like MMC is the other man/home recker. If MFC cared about MMC at all, she wouldn't want that undue trashing of his morals or character. If she cared about him at all she would realize how this situation hurts him and not blame him for wanting to step back. She would offer to stay friends and wait to be more until she breaks off the engament, if he's still available. Or she would break off the engament now. MFC is selfish. She wants her cake and to eat it too, all without having to worry about the calories. She doesn't care about the collateral damage or hits to reputation. She only cares about herself and her short term career. She's not happy with her current management team but wants to appease them for a CHANCE at getting some awards, which could happen without her management team. This series will have to work really hard to redeem MFC. She is almost as bad as a cheater. Also, MFC always questions MMC's feelings. She's always asking herself if she's different, if he just wants a one time stand, if he's only about the chase. I can't believe she doesn't believe his words and actions, always questioning him. Yet she expects MMC believe her when she says her relationship with her manager/engagement is fake and a grey area, not cheating. Everything she says and does is close to how cheaters, manipulaters, lyers, and narcissists act. I know she's no supposed to be though. But all her actions are yellow flags at best, red flags at worst.

If not for the other elements (sub plots, side characters, MMC) I'm sure this would be a 1 or 2 ⭐ rating. If this story was marketed as morally grey with flawed characters, I would feel better about it. Instead I get the feeling I'm supposed to support the decision of MFC and think they are ok all bc her daddy has her in a controlling contract. She's 28, not a child. She has agency over herself, even if in a shitty professional contract.

Story is good if you take away MFC. I enjoyed MMC and the supporting cast. Some scenes with MCs were fine but I hated the personality of MFC. She does not deserve a HEA, though I do empathize with her for being forced in a controlling contract with her father (though she makes little effort to get out). Spicy scenes are fine. Though if that's why you read romance, skip to those scenes since reading the story put me off on the physical scenes. I just couldn't get on board with the MCs together given how MFC acted. If you take away the connection and only listen to those scenes, they are decent. If you listen to this book to get through the over arching story, it's a fine story, I guess. But it's not a story to revisit, ever, imo.

Horrible MFC

This is the 2nd book and it still doesn't end. I paid for the 3rd book and guess what it still doesn't end. Neither does the 4th book.. Any situation that drags on through 5 books is too much it got stupid.
