Publisher's Summary

Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her wolf pack, but the petite redhead refuses to let an Alpha male interfere in her life. Furious and humiliated after her mate refused to claim her, she runs off to hide among the humans. Why wait around for an Alpha male to love her when he’d obviously prefer to ignore her?

Nick Axton can barely control his urges for Shaya, but the Alpha can never claim her — not if he truly cares for her. His degenerative brain condition will eventually destroy him, and he’s afraid of turning his mate into his caretaker. Yet when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t let her go. He pursues her, vowing to finally claim his rightful mate. And despite Shaya’s spirited and passionate resistance, Nick’s fiery determination just might be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

PARANORMAL PERFECTION

A handsome, charismatic, sexy and demanding Alpha were-shifter gives up everything for the chance to right wrongs and finally claim his true mate. Loved it all, the plot, the narrator, the characters, the pack drama, the villains, the twists, the surprises and the very romantic character development that the H/H both take before they can learn to trust each other again.

It was so well-written with snappy dialogue and hot sex scenes that, when I finally got to the end, I was tempted to listen to it all over again.

Worth a credit? Oh boy YES it would have been but for under $10 (what a bargain) I saved my credit for a more costly, but maybe not as enjoyable, book.

Better than book 2, not better than book 1

I really liked this one... Although...book 1 was hands down the best of the series so far...

This was way way better than book 2... I felt so sorry for Nick... and I am so glad Shyia didn't take a whole book to get over the fact that Nick didn't claim her... I am glad she left him, he totally deserved it, but she didn't take 3yrs to get over it... She eventually understood why Nick did what he did... It was a great addition to the Phoenix Pack Series...

I so want Dominic to have a book... I hope his true mate is Nick's sister..

Narration was great... I always enjoy listening to Jill Redfield...

Good Credit or Sale..

It was more couples therapy then action...

I liked this book the least out of the series, it's like paging Dr.Phil lets get all of our feeling out in the open. The book is about 90% the couple's incompatible issues and the last 10% and the end of the book is actually some action and danger. Even when Shaya was in immediate danger she goes off into like a 5 page internal monologue about her own trust issues, it really wasn't a good time to go off in a self-reflection moment. I was just kinda bummed and disappointed, I hope the next one is a lot better then this one.

Beavis never looked so hot.

I loved the first two books in this series and I really liked this one but not quite as well as the first two. I was irritated with both Nick and Shaya because of their lack of communication and they were driving me insane with their stupidity. Of course there has to be some complication to make a book. But other than that the book was great, and I can't wait to see who will be in the next book. Phoenix Pack series will be an instant download for me and now the long wait for the next book commences. This series should be read in order so start with Feral Sins.

Fantastic Installment To The Series

Once again, Suzanne Wright has left my tail wagging and my heart racing with this third installment of the addicting and thrilling Phoenix Pack series! Carnal Secrets brings us Nick and Shaya's story, and fans of the series will know right from the start that this was going to be full of angst thanks to their situation. I was so angry with Nick when he was putting Shaya through the pain of not claiming her as his mate in Wicked Cravings, and I couldn't wait to get the story behind his choice and see just how much he was suffering along with her. She left her pack behind, shattered and feeling lost to the world, in an attempt to escape from the constant pain of seeing Nick act like she meant nothing. But little did she know, her leaving was exactly the kick in the tail the Alpha needed to make his wolf more than ready to stake his claim!!

One of the things I love most about the world and characters Suzanne Wright has created for this series is how she gives the wolves their own minds and own personalities through the thoughts of the shifters. The human vs. animal instinct that they deal with constantly makes them such dynamic and exciting characters, and I LOVED Nick's wolf just as much as I loved him! They were both at odds with Nick not claiming Shaya, but when he finally went after her...daaaayam, Nick was just as animalistic and commanding (maybe even more so) than Trey and Dante had been with their mates!! And submissive Shaya was right there with him, putting her mark on her man and proving that she was no one's bitch but his! And of course we get more of our favorite pack mates from the Phoenix Pack this time around too, and they were just as much fun and excitement as ever! They are fiercely protective of their own, and the shifters faced a threat to the safety of all of their kind this time around. When it came time to stand up for what was theirs, these wolves were once again a force to be reckoned with!

Shaya and Nick's bumpy road to happiness gives paranormal romance fans everything they love and then some. I had no doubt that when I finished this read I was going to yet again be left itching to get my hands on the next installment (I never claimed to be a patient reader!), and that is absolutely the case! I hated to leave the thrilling world of the Phoenix Pack and their fellow shifters, and I can't wait to see who's story we get next. If you haven't started this series yet, my only response is WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!!

Jill Redfield as always was fantastic with the delivery of the story. At $7.34 the book is a bargain.

Not a gripper for me

I find it difficult to truly express how I feel about this book. It was not bad but it was not a page-turner for me either. A very very soft mixture of BDSM and vanilla sex combined with two very possessive characters was the beginning of a good story that quickly turned flat. Issues were solved and dealt with too easily and as much as I had hoped this book was going to keep me on the edge of my seat, it didn’t.

As good as I had hoped

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you enjoyed the first two audio books in this series you will like this book as well. Of course book 1 is my favorite, but I think I like this one more than book 2.

(Unlike other reviewers I won't spoil the plot with a long winded review.)

Who was your favorite character and why?

What does Jill Redfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There were times that Nick's voice reminded my of Trey, but when they were in the same scene you could definitely tell the difference. Props to the narrator on her many voices!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh and found myself smiling a lot as I listened to the story.

Any additional comments?

Is it weird that I finished the book today and want to listen to the story all over again?

Same old same old

As I like the overall series, the stories seem very monotonous. It feels like the same story just with different characters.

Frustrating First Half, but Stick with It

I absolutely loved the first book in this series. I liked the second book a lot. This book didn't quite reach the level of the previous two books, and for me, that problem had more to do with the main female character than anything else.

Shaya is a half shifter, and she has been hurt before. Now her true mate has rejected her. Her wolf is a submissive. She believes that her true mate has rejected her solely because her submissive wolf couldn't handle the role of alpha female to his pack and would be in danger from dominant female wolves who would challenge her position. With the help of her pack, she moves to another town in an attempt to hide away from him.

Nick, the true mate in question, decides that her moving away is unacceptable to him, so he tracks her down and basically camps out on her doorstep. He has his reasons for having rejected her, and they are good ones, but he doesn't want to tell her what they are. He decides he'll just woo her and eventually wear her down.

For her part, Shaya is angry, and she shows her anger by behaving like a jilted teenager. In the first half of the book, I became seriously frustrated with her petulant, childish, manipulative behaviour. Yes, she has her reasons. And Nick, to some degree, deserves a bit of a set down, at least from Shaya's point of view given the information she has about the situation. However, some of the things she does are just, well, childish.

This cat and mouse game goes on....and on....and on... for the first half of the book. Take heart though, because it does get better. There are seriously mean human extremists in the town where Shaya has moved to, and a mysterious pack, and everyone seems to be wondering why Nick, an alpha, is in town. Then Nick's mom and sister show up, as well as the healer from Nick's old pack who has obvious designs on Nick. As the situation comes to a head, the couple confesses their secrets, the relationship drama dies down and the action picks up. At this point, the book gets much, much better.

In hindsight, the book wasn't a waste of my time, but the first half was almost painful to get through. However, the second half made it worth the effort. It still had much of the humour that made the first two books in this series so much fun, but that was tamped down a bit by all the emotional angst in the first part of the book.

The narrator did a very good job. I can't fault her performance in any way.

So torn...good but not great

I missed this writing style, I missed the witty banter, and I missed this world of shifter wolves. So, on the one hand it was great to listen to this book. However, I didn't like the story. It had miscommunication after miscommunication and I really don't like that. Story arcs that should have been dramatic just made my eyes roll.

This is the story of Nick and Shaya, Taryns best friend. I was looking forward to this story, why didn't the alpha male claim his mate? The reasoning was okay...sort of understandable but never really hit home for me. Then the contradictions started...he doesn't want her, she wants him, he DOES want her, she doesn't want him. Then trouble comes and while they were within an inch of figuring out everything they out of no where killed the guy...huh? No one even commented "huh, maybe we should have held off doing that." Just weird things like that annoyed me because random plot twists for the sake of continuing the story always bug me.

It was nice to visit this world again, but nothing I would have rushed to buy had I known.

Absolutely love this series

I’m totally absorbed in this series. When I first read the details on the next book after book one, I was slightly disappointed because I thought they were totally separate stories unrelated to the first, but they all follow on. You hear how the whole pack is progressing but at the same time each story is original and they have me chuckling and crying and really feeling involved. In fact I have managed a book a day and have totally neglected my husband lol. I shall now be spending a fortune on extra credits reading all this series and then exploring this author’s other books. The narrator is also the best I have come across out of ALL the books I’ve listened to, since my membership began a long time ago. Thank you to both the author and the narrator.

Engaging, sexy, funny

I found myself laughing out loud a lot more in this story than any of the others. It definitely took a lot longer to get to the sexy parts but Shya and Nick and genuinely interesting characters. I enjoyed this book throughly and as with the other books in this series Jill Redfield does a terrific job with the reading.

Secrets, hurt, anger and trust stand in the way.

Suzanne Wright just has a way with her stories that I can't get enough of. They are funny, flirty, and sexy as hell. Top it off with a great storyline full of romance, suspense, and characters that you wish you knew you can't help but love her books.

The Phoenix Pack books were the first I read of hers and since then I have been hooked on her stories and am regularly rereading which is what I'm doing now. I also enjoy the audiobooks they are well voiced and are easy to listen to.

Shifters, hot alpha's, and feisty females are all wrapped up for you here. If that sounds like your thing then read this series you won't regret it.

Shaya has left the Phoenix Pack because her true mate doesn't want her. It hurts and she's betrayed but she'll move on because she refuses to live a full life just because Nick Axton is an a**.

Nick wants Shaya like he has never wanted anything before. He can't claim her though no matter how much he and his wolf want to. There are things she doesn't know. Things he doesn't want to share with her. But when she runs from him he realizes nothing will stop him from finding her. Not his problems, not her pack or his. He was wrong and he intends to fix it.

After 6 months Nick has found Shaya but she still wants nothing to do with him. He blew his chance and she doesn't see he deserves another. She should know better, no true alpha would just give up on their mate no matter how hard she pushes.

More than mate trouble awaits them though, the extremists in Arizona are particularly active and the leader is someone from Nick's past. He intends to use Nick to get his point across to get all shifters registered and confined to their territories. His motives are really much worse than that though and all shifters are at risk.

When Taryn, Trey, and some of the Phoenix Pack arrive to find out what exactly is going on with Shaya and Nick they make the decision to stay and be sure the extremists don't get away with it. Nick's other problems are returning and he decides he will have to leave Shaya after all, but she is much stronger-willed than he could have been prepared for.

The extremists will go to great lengths to see shifters gone and when the wolves discover more of their plan it seems time to make their move. Nick has gotten a little following while in Arizona and when they all decide to head back to Phoenix Pack to make the fight even they join them.

Together the Phoenix wolves and Nick and his followers battle the extremists that followed them, will they all make it out of the battle unscathed? What happens next for the crew with Nick and Shaya?

Happy Listening

Great Narration. Annoying heroine.

Great Narration. Annoying heroine.
Read through KU whilst also flicking and listening to the audible version too. What a great idea to Read and Listen. Very handy using my headphones when doing stuff around the house. I don’t lose the flow of the story.
Will be buying all the audible books over time.
I have to say the narrator for this book was one of the best with an enjoyable narration. Lots of inflections and I could tell most of the characters apart.
BOOK REVIEW
Nearly a DNF due to the whiny, annoying heroine.
If not for the fact I had read book one in the Mercury Pack and wanted to know the back story, I would not have finished this book.
I started off liking, admiring and feeling sorry for Shaya.
By the half way mark I ended up thinking she really was an emotionally challenged idiot. Her continual woe is me, everyone leaves me and I’m not good enough for Nick attitude really got on my nerves by the time we were to chapter 8.
Her insecurities and Mummy issues carried on throughout the whole story. By the time her head was out of her a** at 95% into the story, I didn’t care and wished Nick could get a different mate.
Yes, Nick had been an ass and the fact he still hadn’t told her all the truth about why he didn’t claim her was annoying, but I nearly stopped reading when Shaya was playing with Nicks emotions, by deceptively and purposely going on a date with someone else.
Nick really was an idiot in not claiming Shaya but he had semi valid reasons.
He at least was really trying to apologise and prove he was serious about claiming Shaya and was quite honourable in trying to not tie her to a sick mate.
Shaya has some ridiculous twin loss emotional crap from when she was in the womb and uses the fact her first boyfriend, from 10 YEARS previously, was a complete user/loser to excuse her abandonment and trust issues.
She really had no valid reasoning for her behaviour.
She then pushes away her TRUE MATE, due to hurt feelings.
Thank goodness the other characters and the actual plot were entertaining.
We did get some other woman drama which was dealt with too easily and quickly. It was also easy to know what Amber had NOT been doing. The same with the two main baddies.
What was the deal with Shaya’s parents, her mother was nasty and neurotic, her father was plain weird.
Read through KU whilst also flicking and listening to the audible version too.
I started with this author reading the first Phoenix Pack book which was okay. Months later I picked up the 1st Mercury Pack book. I enjoyed that enough to start reading them in the correct order.
