Publisher's Summary
Creepy fun for ages 9-12!
Camp nights or camp frights?
Every sleepaway camp promises memories that last a lifetime. But the memories from Camp Red Moon might give you nightmares!
- The campfire appears to dim when the moon turns blood red and strange creatures prowl the forest.
- Do you find a total lookalike at camp? Is it coincidence or is he a shapeshifter trying to take over your life?
- Why don't your competitors at the robotics competition seem exactly...human?
- And why do campers do anything to avoid Cabin 6?
The master of the scary story, R.L. Stine, has handpicked a staff of storytelling counselors - Dan Poblocki, Ellen Oh, and Justin Reynolds - to help him tell the creepy campfire stories that swirl around Camp Red Moon.
No matter how bright the campfire, get ready for some CHILLS!

Jodie loves visiting her grandparents' farm. Okay, so it's not the most exciting place in the world. Still, Grandpa tells great scary stories. And Grandma's chocolate chip cookies are the best. But this summer the farm has really changed. The cornfields are sparse. Grandma and Grandpa seem worn out. And the single scarecrow has been replaced by twelve evil-looking ones. Go Behind the Scenes with R. L. Stine
Spooky, nostalgic fun
As a child of the 90s, I owe my spooky sensibility to shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and books like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark—but few works were more influential on my love of all things creepy than those of R. L. Stine. So I trust no one better to curate this collection of scary stories, all conceived by Stine himself, and written by some of the most exciting names in kids and young adult lit. Yes, Camp Red Moon, may technically be for younger audiences, but the tales within are just as delightful to 30-somethings like me. I enjoyed both the nostalgia factor of the summer camp setting, while appreciating the contemporary, 21st century twist to many of the stories. If you have kids (or nieces and nephews, like I do!) who have shown similar creepy inclinations, might I suggest sitting around a campfire one crisp night this October and listening with the whole family? Or, if you’re a lifelong city kid like me, just dim the lights, fire up a pumpkin-scented candle, and get spooked.
Our favorite moments from Camp Red Moon
About the Creator
R. L. Stine is one of the best-selling children's authors in history. In July 1992, Scholastic introduced his Goosebumps book series with Welcome to Dead House. These many years later, Goosebumps is now one of the best-selling children’s series of all-time—with more than 350 million English language books in print, plus an additional 50+ million international copies in print in 32 languages.
The Goosebumps series made R. L. Stine a worldwide publishing celebrity (and Jeopardy answer). His other popular children’s book series include Fear Street, (recently revived with all new books), Mostly Ghostly, The Nightmare Room, and Rotten School. Other titles include: It's The First Day of School Forever, A Midsummer Night's Scream, Young Scrooge, and two picture books, with Marc Brown—The Little Shop of Monsters and Mary McScary.
The Goosebumps TV show was the number-one children's show in America for three years. The episodes can still be seen on Netflix. More recently, R. L.’s anthology TV series, R. L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, won the Emmy Award three years in a row as Best Children's Show. Two Goosebumps feature films starring Jack Black as R. L. Stine were released in 2015 and 2018. The first film became the #1 film in America.
R. L. Stine lives in New York City with his wife Jane, an editor and publisher.

Three Laughable Stories, One Good One
Most of this anthology is laughable dreck with ‘take my word for it’ suspense so poorly telegraphed that’s its one step away from saying “and then something really scary happened!” Narration for these is so cartoonishly over-the-top as well that it ruins any scare factor they may have had.
The second story titled ‘The New Camper’ however, despite being a somewhat familiar format, was several cuts above the rest. That one feels like it’s in a totally different book. The narration is noticeably better too.
I’m aware that I’m not in this book’s demographic, but I’ve read my share of young adult and children’s stories as a post-college adult. I wouldn’t subject anyone of any age to the three sub-par stories in here. [AUDIBLE]

Saw this book could be preordered and figured why not give it a try, since I use to read them back when I was younger. It was actually pretty good for an adult but would definitely reccomend for children. have informed my son to try it as I'm sure hell like. to be honest, I was able to listen to it three times while at work. not bad at all

Scarier than Goosebumps
This is a good book to get your children into more weird and scary stories. FYI there are a couple stories that will probably terrify younger 'readers'. the actors did a great job. I would recommend it if your child want to get into the horror genre.

Just For Kids
In recent decades, many stories written for children have been written with a depth to be enjoyed by an older audience. This is not that. It's just for kids and I doubt younger teens would enjoy it.

Not a fan of such stories aimed at kids
I chose this book out of the free Originals because all of the others were R rated. Thought it would be a good story....and it is entertaining. Good fodder for campfire story time which is the basic premise of the book. I would not let my kids under 12 listen to it though.
