Publisher's summary

A broke and unemployed musician lands a gig driving a cab through the swamplands of south Louisiana while bobbing and weaving through a nighttime world ruled by drugs, guns, saints, and strippers.

In this fuel-injected work of creative nonfiction, Grammy-nominated musician and award-winning writer Dege Legg - also known as Brother Dege - recounts five years behind the wheel while documenting the underworld of Lafayette and its Cajun and Creole hinterlands from the submarine bubble of his cab.

From the penthouse suites on high to the crack houses on the ground, Legg churns out thick-skinned tales about downtrodden derelicts, minor victories for the forgotten, and redemption in the face of it all. Cablog reverberates with tones of Bukowski, Miller, Chandler, and Kerouac while charting its own new territory of the human spirit.

Absolutely amazing and humbling.

Nothing else is like it! I believe it holds a certain sense of humanity and humbling experiences told by Brother Dege.

Dege telling his stories could not have been performed better

I didn't know why it took me until Dege died to read this book. Everybody should read this book. He talks so honestly and caringly about the lowest people out there. We should know they exist, and are people.

There is nothing else like this.

This diary captures a raw, honest vision of a part of society many people are blind to. You feel like you are riding along with Dege throughout this journey narrated in a way only he could deliver. Knowing how much he removed from his original manuscript makes me wish he had additional stories recorded. I was not ready for this adventure to end.

More of a theatrical experience than an audiobook

Dege’s stories of his long nights in the cab made me laugh, cry, get the warm and fuzzy feelings, wonder just how bizarre some people could be, and generally question my own place in this world. His delivery accompanied by the original score, ambient street sounds, and hilarious impersonations of his cab patrons made this so much more than just an audiobook. It was truly an entertaining masterpiece.

Could not stop listening

Dege had such a REAL point of view. I read this book but I just had to hear the author’s voice telling the stories. Loved the narrative and added sound effects and emotion.
Do yourself a favor and go buy the book and download the audio version too!
