Acerca de esta escucha

The 2-Hour Job Search shows job seekers how to work smarter (and faster) to secure first interviews. Through a prescriptive approach, Steve Dalton explains how to wade through the Internet's sea of information and create a job search system that relies on mainstream technology such as Excel, Google, LinkedIn, and alumni databases to create a list of target employers, contact them, and then secure an interview - with only two hours of effort. Avoiding vague tips like "leverage your contacts", Dalton tells job hunters exactly what to do and how to do it. This empowering book focuses on the critical middle phase of the job search and helps listeners bring organization to what is all too often an ineffectual and frustrating process.

For anyone feeling lost or just wanting to learn more about how to go about a job search. This is for you. It makes the job search formulaic, but also somehow organic.

Incredibly practical and actionable

I belive in summaries. I have the book too. The author has a quick action reminder page, and audio sound like it with very more to offer. I gave it 4 stars, but was really considering only 3 - 3.5 stars because you had just read the summary page of the book you get the same information.

Why not just read the quick notes?

Seven months ago I found out that my position was moving overseas and I would be getting let go. After the shock factor wore off, I started devouring career switching books. In Dawn Graham's book "Switchers" (another one I recommend to those making dramatic career changes) she referenced Steve Dalton's 2HJS several times when discussing the criticality of networking. I immediately listened to this book (the narrator is good, but not as good as Steve is in his second book) and implemented his PRESCRIPTIVE step by step approach to networking and it worked like a charm! I have been in the working world nine years since graduating from my MBA program and have never networked until this experience. Steve lays out the exact plan that you need to follow to build a network of advocates within your target organizations. Because of this book, my network has EXPLODED and I literally had THREE JOB OFFERS SIMULTANEOUSLY. My advocates were finding jobs that were never going to be posted (new positions, upcoming retirements, etc.). Another critical point he teaches is to keep the ball in your court. You always want to keep control of the conversation with potential/existing advocates. You want to thank them promptly and keep "checking the crab traps" at periodic intervals. You want to be bold and ask for other resources (introductions). His TIARA approach makes informational interviews easy. Why they do not teach a networking course at every MBA program in America is beyond me! I wish he had been my professor!

Please, please, please read this book, stop applying to online job postings, and start networking today! Do not delay.

STOP APPLYING TO JOBS AND START NETWORKING!!!

As a fellow Duke alum, I found this book amazingly productive as I got high conversion rates immediately after starting the techniques mentioned in the book.

This book boasts a great method to make your job search more efficient. While this audiobook was a good listen and easy to follow, if this is something you want to go back and reference, I highly recommend getting the actual book. Otherwise, check this out and listen up!

Good Listen, Surely a better read

Step-by-step instructions for everything from narrowing down your list of potential employers to networking and follow-up. Getting a great job today is often more about who you know than what you know. This book discusses why that is and how you can follow a process to build relationships and find advocates/mentors who will help you along the way.

How-to guide for navigating the job search

The author takes a long time to say very little. He takes simple processes and over-structures them into a overly incremental framework.

Tedious and needlessly complicated
