This book picks up shortly after Ripped ends, and follows sister Rosie Miller, whose first love Hunter Black reappears in her life as the new gym owner where she works as a fitness and martial arts instructor. For a novella, it’s a serviceable romance lacking the humor from book one. Rosie’s behavior is also against type. The book starts off with Rosie as a “rip the bandaid off” kind of gal who likes to get right to the point and flip to the last page in the book to see how it ends. Yet the entire time she’s around her old flame Hunter, she never talks to him about why he left and what he wants between them now, which leads to a lot of unnecessary angst as Rosie assumes he’s just looking for a casual fling.
Perhaps it’s having listened to both books on back to back days, but it felt like both couples did sex according to the same playbook. It was hot in the first book, but just warm the second time around. For a free Audible Escapes listen, however, I was satisfied with this afternoon listen.
More Warmed than Burned by second chance romance
