Publisher's summary

"Go live with Nate Ryder," they said. "Everything will be fine," they said.

Are they nuts?

Nate Ryder has been the bane of my existence for the past five years. He's made it his personal mission to make my life a living hell and now my parents expect me to go and live with the guy for the foreseeable future.

No thanks. I'd rather gouge out my eyes with a toothpick than live with him and his little brother, Jesse. Only problem is, they have my parents wrapped around their little fingers, thinking they're the good little boys they pretend to be.

But I know better, and so does the rest of Broken Hill High. Nate Ryder is not to be messed with. He's a bad boy through and through. A bully. A guy who doesn't care who he has to step on to get what he wants. He's the devil and he knows it.

Now that devil is my roommate.

I better hold on tight because this is going to be one bumpy ride. One where I can guarantee that I won't come out the same.

Not gonna lie...

I'm an avid mystery/thriller/suspense reader. I literally read/listen to at least 4 books a week. Every now and then I like to switch it up and I fell in love with Tijan's Falcon Crest series among her other books and have seen this series out there but didn't think anything could hold a candle to FC. I am pleased to say, I was Wrong. Broke Hill is in some ways very similar to FC but in other ways so much more.
As an adult I don't often enjoy romance novels bc it's all about sex all the time and would rather read a YA novel and remember my days in high school and college and go back in time (mentally) and try and place faces to names and relive those "Glory days"
25yrs later this was the one book that actually made me feel like it was an accurate portrayal of what high school was becoming and now is like for my daughter today.
Gonna start on #2 now- if it's anything like the first, I think I may have found my "break thru" go-to author.

Kudos! I can be an EXTREMELY tough critic.

please don't write about sexual assault again

Please don't write about sexual assault again. You were down right demeaning and misleading and it makes me sick to think other YA will read this and believe what you wrote. Your description was vague. your character and those around her were Blaise about the entire incident. the only charter you wrote, that you seemed to write in reality, was the victims mother. Not one victim leaves a broom closet, cried a little and then states she's fine. Not one principle wonders over, asks what's wrong, yet doesn't talk to the victim alone. You let out every important feeling and experience with fluff, sex, and underage drinking. hooray for you for mentioning her bruised body. But only a person who either doesn't give a shit about assaults to females, or maybe sometime who threw it in the book because you ran out of ideas, would leave it the part where the victim had to be the hero for hours and days after an assault like this because you photographed, questioned and re-questioned over and over again. shame on you for being paid to continue to demean any part of assault and make it seem like it is not a big deal and everything is fine.

Highschool DRAMA, BAD boyz & angst

This first book of the series has all the goodies you want in a highschool bully romance na/ya
Tora was childhood friends with brothers Nate & Jesse, until one day Nate turned on her around age 12 & she didn’t know why he became so cruel. Fast forward 5 yrs, now seniors in hs & the bro’s are cruel bullies to her. Both boys are infamous school bad boys, manwhores etc while taking time to make embarrass or shame Tora at every turn. Nate the oldest is the leader while younger bro Jesse is more flippant in his attitude towards her.
The story takes on from here when her parents leave country and she stays with them and their parents. There is the push and pull, angsty drama you expect and loved from series like Wicked Bay (la cotton), Bully (Penelope Ward), Paper Princess (Erin watt), or my fav Fallen Crest (Tijan) and let me not forget LJ Shen’s two generations of hot holes lol
Narration a solid four, story solid four and def worth my credit and I’m downloading the next book of series!
I’m always looking for something in this genre after falling in love with Fallen Crest series, and this one so far is a go!
For a darker series in this genre try these fav of mine; Elite Kings (Amo Jones) , Fear Me (bb Reid), Boys of Brayshaw (Meagan brandy)

Pleasantly Surprised

I enjoy a good bully romance and Sheridan Anne does not disappoint. “Broken Hill High” is a mixture of Penelope Ward’s “Bully” and Tijan’s “Fallen Crest High.” I liked both Nate and Tora. I also appreciate how Tora fought to overcome her issues. Can’t wait to start the next book! SIDE NOTE: There’s one angry/cruel review that I do not agree with. The way Tora handled her sexual assault is simply one perspective. Speaking from experience, I know not everyone deals with these deep issues in exactly the same way and not every storyteller is required to go into the horrid aftermath of a survivor’s tale. This is especially true when it is not the intention of the book. Additionally, out of kindness, I recommend readers stay away from bully romance books if this is a difficult subject matter to endure.

Pretty Decent

So overall this is a pretty decent book, I stayed engaged and enjoyed it overall! That being said- there were a lot of cliches and the reason why Nate was such a bully to Tora was really dumb! I had built this whole idea in my head of what it can possibly be! But the reason was dumb! I still liked the story and recommend people should listen if they enjoy high school drama/romance! Also the bullying isn’t to bad! I’ve read wayyyy worse! Give it a listen, the narrator was pretty good as well👍

Light, predictable but fun read

This was a fun light read. Nothing exceptionally remarkable about it, just some normal, already told before, high school bully romance. Completely predictable and a bit juvenile, it had catness, cheerleaders, football players, and bad boys, etc etc etc etc. Still it was fun and enjoyable as it was free on ku and catalogue plus Audible.
The narration was good too.

Great book and narrator!

I loved the first book in this series. The story was quite short but filled with lots of plot and overall great story. I wish it had been longer, but I know there are lots more books in the series so looking forward to book 2!!

I also loved the narrator for this book! Really great and clear

Difficult issues handled well

This is a good book.A great balance between bad boy and good girl. Story line is the typical YA romance but the characters are stronger and more interesting. I really liked how the author dealt with “hard” issues without being too graphic yet leaving enough space for the reader to sympathise with the characters.
An “easy” listen which keeps you interested. Like how this book can stand alone or if you’re interested in the characters “world” continue with the next book. Which I am & will review.

A good listen!

Tora is a sassy 17yr old, she has the typical struggles, boys, mean girls, school, friends and Nate the bad boy who has been in her life since day dot. Sheridan does a great job bringing this all together. The narrator Stephanie Bentley does a fabulous job! Binged this in 1 day! Better start book 2 now!

Love this story

Look it’s very YA but the book is sweet and the characters totally addicting.

Narrator is fab, really brings Tora to life, Nat is the perfect cross of bad boy and swoon worthy

Great listen

While this may be your typical high school bully to lover story, I must admit it was a breath of fresh air listening to a storyline that didn’t over indulge in the abusive antics of the male lead, which seems to be a common theme amongst young adult romance these days.
Yes we get brief snippets and explanation but unlike most other stories that leave me rolling my eyes I fell in love Nate’s character pretty early on in the book, and found Tora relatable.
The story kept me thoroughly engaged and Stephanie Bentley did a fantastic job as narrator.
Can’t wait for the next instalment!

Loved it!

This was an awesome audiobook. This is an enemies to lovers bully romance that redeems itself by the end. Surprisingly, it doesn't really end on a cliffhanger but I'm pretty sure the story continues. This can just as easily be read as a standalone book though. I loved how the romance developed in this story and loved the narration that added to the characters and made the story that much better. If you have read the blurb and think you will like this book then I would definitely recommend this to you and hope you love listening to/reading it! Enjoy!

Loooved this series ❤️

If you love the hero being super in love and fiercely protective then this book is for you. Tora & Nate are everything. I fell in love with all the characters in this book. The friend group was so loyal & I loved how they all come together. I’ve just finished the last book and it’s a beautiful HEA for everyone. I also really enjoyed this narrator, even her male voice was fantastic. If you have read Fallen Crest series and enjoyed it then you’ll enjoy this series as they are similar. Highly recommend! 🌟
