Publisher's summary

Between the world of startups, companies constantly shifting through different modes of maturity and the consistent chasing of growth and profits, and the combined challenges of bad management, bad leadership, and stagnant employment environments, the best performers have realized that they will need to leave their current company, or even their current career, for new opportunities—whether it is higher pay, more career options, or a better fit for their work goals.

In this fable, structured around the framework of Rising Strong by Brené Brown, learn how a newly formed mastermind group uses techniques like ikigai and kaizen to discover the BRICK method of job search and career change. This method, which emphasizes the understanding of self, targeting, and reflection using incremental change over time, can help anyone make the career pivoting decisions in their life.

Inspirational Listen/Read for Career Changers!

WOW! What a fun way to help process and learn tips for navigating a career transition! Emery Jordan’s approach toward career change is captured through a creative narrative that illustrates each of the principles this book focuses on in an engaging, memorable way. I became invested in the characters whose stories weave satisfyingly together while simultaneously learning strategies and taking notes on thought-provoking exercises for career development. This was a delight to listen to as well because the narrator’s voice is excellent. As someone who enjoys both fiction and personal development books, Emery Jordan’s “edutainment” (educational entertainment) really helps the lessons stick in a positive way. The final chapters focusing on Key Terms and The BRICK Method are very helpful to really hone in on the key takeaways. Throughout the book, I found myself taking many notes because my brain was whirring with ideas. As a career counselor, this book inspired self-reflection and gave me many new ideas for not only how to support clients, but also how to continue to reflect on my own personal career journey and growth as well. I highly recommend this read for anyone experiencing feelings of stagnation or lack or direction in their life/career, or actively thinking about and working on making a career change!

Very helpful!

I love this approach of breaking down a job search into smaller tasks. This is a quick listen and I highly recommend starting it before getting too deep into a job search - it will save you a lot of time.
