It's been 10 years since the Battlemage War, where thousands died as mages sundered the earth and split the sky. Habreel believes eradicating magic is the only way to ensure a lasting peace. As deaths involving magic increase and the seat of magical learning - the Red Tower - falls under suspicion, two students and one lawbringer must do everything they can to combat Habreel and his followers before magic disappears from the world for good.

But those seven bottles of mead were more than just a folk blessing. As Lord Minalan the Spellmonger began his honeymoon on a decadent river barge with his very pregnant bride, he had no idea that the occasion would have anything more complicated than eating, drinking, and making love on the agenda. But a frantic message from one of the Tree Folk indicating he and Alya may be in danger compels him to skip the lazy repose and travel to a far away ruin to speak with a possibly crazy Alka Alon mage - Lilastien, the Sorceress of Sartha Wood.

Great for Fantasy fans. Tamer Game of Thrones
Like Song of Ice and Fire but focusing on Magic. Still plenty of blood, little bit of sex (mostly implied), but a lot of Magic. 2 or 3 stories all wrapped up in one City. Can't wait for the next one.

A Great Fantasy read from the Author of Battlemage
What did you like most about Bloodmage?
The character development is first class with a nod to characters from the previous book. It was hard to stop listening.
What about Matt Addis’s performance did you like?
Matt Addis is the reason I chose to buy this book in Audible format rather then paperback. His voice carries you away to this world and differentiation of character voices make it easy to recognise what each character sounds like. Well done.
Any additional comments?
Stephen Aryan's work reminds me so much of David Eddings books of the Belgariad. I am so eager for the next book now that I may just have to start over again.

Good story but not great part of trilogy
The story as a standalone is good but as part of a wider series I find this to be lacking without enough link to battlemage.
I would however recommend still going for it as chaos Mage the 3rd book is exceptional and in my opinion the true sequel to battlemage.

Meh
I re-read my summary from the first book and was unsure what I meant. The story is good but the narrator has no storytelling skills. I wasn’t clear previously so I will this time, don’t buy this and expect anything other than a flat reading with clear pronunciation. The story is good inter twining threads being resolved efficiently and a prelude of the next story. So will I listen to the next one? I noted it is the same narrator so maybe I need to leave it for a while to forget a little how much it affects my enjoyment.

Hard to get into, but very well narrated
Was hard to get into the book, jumped around a bit and was hard to keep up with. one minute we're at a boxing match, the next we're at a conversation between so many gods it's hard to know who's who as they're all talking.
But the narrator does a good job and it's usually easy to distinguish between voices, but its just that too many are introduced in too short a period of time. The book jumps so quickly between different groups whom are hard to follow and have so many different members. Moments of surprise of people turning up etc are often spoilt because I had No idea who they were!
