Publisher's Summary

The jockey, the wealthy owner, the veteran trainer: one by one they die. All players in the high-stakes world of horse racing - and all complicit in its terrible sins. By making them pay, one killer earns the chance to make his point…while the mastermind behind it all draws closer to the fatal finish line.

San Diego CSI Holly Jennings has seen enough violence in her career to know the difference between a killer bent on revenge - and a killer bent on chaos. She knows there’s more to these murders than meets the eye. But as her hunt for the truth leads her from the tracks of Southern California to the farms of Kentucky and the grandstands at Saratoga, she finds herself drawn deeper into a tangled web of ambition and greed, as not one, but two sadistic killers race toward their terrible goal: utter destruction.

Too out there

Even though Audible doesn't show this as a series, this is the second book with Detective Holly Jennings. Each book could be read independently but then you might miss some of the details of her home life and why the appearance of a certain character in this book affected her so much. The first book was Daddy's Home which I liked a lot better than this one.

Someone is going around killing members of the horse racing community. Some of them were innocent, some not. Since I'm not familiar with horse racing I don't know if some of the things described in this book are true or not surrounding the racing industry. The plot was just a little too out there for me and I had no trouble putting it down at times because I didn't want to hear what came next.

The narrator did an okay job, but nothing spectacular. The male voices could have used some work.

good read

I liked this book, but it ran on in parts and although I won't say what (don't want to ruin the plot for anyone), there is one thing that is truly hard to believe, you will know it when you hear/read it...
