Publisher's Summary
Listen to it because:
Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes an event mentioned in a Warhammer 40,000 rulebook - the Fall of Vilamus - and weaves his Night Lords characters into it, crafting a tense and dramatic tale of honour (or the complete lack thereof) amongst traitors...you'd think they'd know better that to trust one another.
The story:
Driven on by their hatred of the False Emperor, the Night Lords stalk the shadows of the galaxy, eternally seeking revenge for the death of their primarch. Their dark quest leads them to a fractious alliance with the Red Corsairs, united only by a common enemy. Together with this piratical band of renegades, they bring their ways of destruction to the fortress-monastery of the Marines Errant.
Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Narrated by Andrew Wincott.

One of the best 40k novels continued
A continuation of one of the best Warhammer 40,000 novels. It takes off shortly after the end of Soul Hunter, and introduces a handful of new characters. Andrew Wincott's narration is easy to listen to and understand, though sometimes it can be hard to tell the characters apart by their voices, though there is usually "written" confirmation to which character says what, so it is still somewhat easy to follow. Highly recommended for any Chaos or Night Lords fan that has read or listened to Soul Hunter.

Pretty good by 40K standards, but weak 2nd act.
This book has its moments, and really hit home at points, but overall it’s not as good as the first book.
Dembski-Bowden’s fight scenes are a confusing mess, and his strengths lie in deepening a story about beefy space men.

Send in The Eighth!
ADB does it again! His ability to create immersive characters and breathe life into the universe they live in is second to none.
This novel builds on it's predecessor insight's on The Night Lord's, the reason why they rebelled, and the fate they pursue in the 41st millennium.
The plot is gripping, and consistent with the scarcity that the traitor warbands suffer in the eye. It's filled with intense melees, calculating void battles, and haunting neverborn hunts.
The dialogue, too is soundly on point. What I enjoy the most about this and other novels by ADB are the philosophical perspectives he introduces through his narratives, and how they fit perfectly with the protagonists that espouse them.
This is definitely one to check out if your remotely interested in 40k universe!

Whilst his is a must listen book in the Night Lords series by Aaron, the Audible version smoothly takes you from one scene in the book to another without any warning that they are not actually talking about the same people or places anymore. This makes half the book a confusing mess.

Another breathtaking novel by Dembski-Bowden.
The story of first claw and the ship Covenant of Blood continues in this grimdark novel.
It does not disappoint.
The first book "Soul Hunter" is my favourite novel from the 4OK genre and this is a close second. The pace is fantastic and the author has managed to inject serious personality into space marines, something which a lot of writers fall short with. I love these books and I can't wait to listen to the third in this set.
On that note, the narrators dark measured tones and the voices and accents he has given to each character makes this audiobook even more visceral and entertaining.
Seriously dark. Seriously entertaining.
As near to perfection as it's possible to get.
Definitely not for sensitive dispositions.

Brilliant
Part two is easily as good as the first in the trilogy, seeing the politics between the different factions and seeing how a fallen chapter continues to survive is fascinating. ADB manages to write a protagonist that can be down right cruel and evil but you still route for Which is an achievement.
Narrator was also very well done with characters being distinct enough from each other and the action being brought to life quite well.
