Publisher's Summary

Kit Colbana - half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades - has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters - especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it's all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she's gotten in over her head. Or maybe it's because if she fails - she's dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she'll even live long to collect her fee....

3 1/2 ⭐️, YA in nature!

The overall storyline was pretty good. I really liked the Hero’s personality. Honestly, the Heroine irritated the heck out of me. She was so determined that no one see her as weak, she often showed her ass. The shit talking gets old to me and what she thought as being tough, sounded more like just being rude.

I know that Maxine Mitchell is a very talented narrator. I’ve likely listened to fifty books that she narrated. She does a convincing male voice along with the female voices. However, there is something about her speech cadence that grates on my nerves; especially when performing internal dialogue. If the internal dialogue has any length, I just want to scream, Hurry up, will you?”.

As far as the romantic elements, there is very little. There isn’t any deep relationship developed between the Hero and Heroine. There is only one very brief sex scene that was barely a PG rating. There is some violence but, it’s not over the top. This really seems more like a young adult book, to me. Therefore, if you’re looking for a, Suzanne Wright type, shifter story, this will miss the mark.

Annoyingly stagnant characters

Main characters continue to harp at each other in the same manner everytime regardless of what had occurred between them. Repetitive dialogue. "I just feel something pulling me..." kind of plot advancement. Side characters more interesting than the main. Couldn't finish the book.

Narrator does a solid job. Would listen to her again

It sucked me in ...

Interesting start to a new series. Characters with troubled pasts coming together to find a missing teenager, presumed runaway. The story pulls you and brings forth a multidimensional world that you’ll get caught up in from the start and wish you could move right on to the next book. The narrator did a good job with providing individual voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each character and scene.
