Not much stood out

A hybrid of military SF, spellcasting fantasy, and cyberpunk noir. Relentless pacing, a few splashes of black humor, and sudden bursts of violence. I feel like there were interesting ideas but i felt completely clueless about the world and the world’s history. Earth? Alternate Earth? Alien planet? I either missed the background or its not there. I feel like that would be a story on its own. I didnt really care about the main character. Didn’t really understand his narrative loop. (Ooops, back in “jail” again!). Will nevertheless try more Snyder - I love R. Fletcher with W Snyder.
