Publisher's summary

You are about to discover proven steps and strategies to properly support and care for a loved one with bipolar disorder. More often than not, people who have a loved one diagnosed with bipolar disorder wonder what to expect and how they should show their love and support. It can be very difficult for those who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder to accept their condition. In the same way, it can also be overwhelming, and at the same time frightening, for the family and friends of people with bipolar disorder, especially if they do not know the appropriate ways to support and deal with the condition.

Bipolar disorder, which is also known as manic depression, is a type of mental or psychiatric disorder that is marked by extreme mood swings. Although there have continuously been studies on the condition, its ultimate cause remains unknown. On the other hand, some of the presumed contributors to bipolar disorder include brain chemistry, genetics, and life events.

All people experience various events in their daily lives; however, people who are suffering due to bipolar disorder experience persistent episodes of life's "ups and downs" that affect their ability to function as an individual. Bipolar disorder can affect one's thoughts, moods, and behavior.

In recent studies, mental health experts estimate that over two million adults are afflicted with bipolar disorder. Thus, if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with this condition, the most important step towards discarding uncertainty is education. Educating yourself about bipolar disorder can help you deal with a loved one who has been inflicted with this unfortunate condition.

Very basic

Perhaps because I have already read a couple of books on bipolar disorder, I found this book very basic. The only new information I gained was in the realm of how diet can affect bipolar disorder. However, the dietary restrictions were first presented in a "must be avoided at all costs" manner, and then brought down to a less strict stance on their consumption. I also did not appreciate the all-or-nothing take on alcohol. Finally, I did not agree with the stance that meditation can be used in lieu of medication for some individuals. A close family member of mine has bipolar disorder and spent hours a day meditating before his diagnosis. This person became increasingly manic and eventually psychotic.

Great book for patients and loved ones

This is short, up to date, authoritative, and comprehensive. I was diagnosed with BP and and have been taking meds for more than 15 years. But I am still struggling, as is my spouse. This clear book in layman' terms provides a gateway to a better life. Thank you.

Very basic.

If you have little to no idea about bipolar disorder, this books is a useful tool, where it excels in talking about a broad spectrum of related items, it lacks substance in detailing the topics. Was worth the 4$ to get a foundation to look up on my drive home.

Narration was dry, but as to be expected from a book as such. I applaud the narrator for being able to fluently speak the medicinal garble ;)
