Publisher's summary

“National Best-seller—New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly, Wall Street Journal

The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

Now a #1 New York Times bestselling book, Capital Gaines offers readers a ringside seat as Chip relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way. His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances. Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip Gaines.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business but more importantly in life.

Bootstrap Success from a Serial Doer

I am, at best, mildly successful and see glimpses of myself in Chips personal story. One of my biggest takeaways is the crucial need to be a doer. As he describes executing an idea, or half an idea, I can feel myself mentally & emotionally pulling up the reins. Using Chips example I am making a challenge to myself to become a doer. Not a reckless Jesus Take The Wheel and hope for the best doer but a calculated doer that commits to a course of action and follows thru.
Thx for sharing your story & leading by example.

Weekend Road Trip

My wife started playing this in the car for her and I to listen to as we embarked on a 6 hour car ride to southern Utah for a family getaway. I didn’t even ask who or what the book was about, but found myself really enjoying it.

It wasn’t until about the 3rd chapter that it finally clicked for me of who was actually narrating and who had written the book. I looked over to my wife and said, “Wait, this is Chip Gaines from that Fixer Upper show you watch?!” She laughed as she realized I was just barely figuring that out.

I’ve seen snippets of the show here and there due to its popularity, but I’ve never sat down and actually watched it. After completing the book in just two car rides (Down and back road trip), I have an incredible amount of respect for these two, for what they’ve accomplished, what they stand for, their respect for God, and their pure desire to help other people.

Very powerful and inspiring wisdom told by the words of Chip. Would absolutely recommend this book! (And have to three different people since finishing it 7 hours ago)

Not What I expected

This book was better than I expected. It left me thinking about who I am and dreaming about what I can do. I am glad I got the audio book so I was able to listen to Chip tell the story. I finished this book with a smile and a sense of purpose. I will listen to it again.

Inspirational

During the couple of days I listened to this book at home, I laughed, cried, paused the rhetoric, wrote down quotes & made plans to change the world. I heard many of the things I felt, things I believed and hoped and never said aloud, for myself, my husband, my son, for the world, spoken though the voice of a beloved reality-show couple. Chip & Joanna entered our home through the television, and my heart through this book. You hit the nail on the head - thanks for speaking life into this Florida family's home.

Chips work ethic

Chip doesn't reveal any great business strategies. just hard work and a positive attitude... a feel good story. he opens with the story of his early years and his poor reading ability. he was in a reading group called the penguins. the better reading groups were named after great birds who could fly. Penguins can't fly but chip knew that they could swim, something the other birds couldn't do. inspirational. Through out the whole story he says don't live in fear to live your dream, don't play it safe, never give up. in the end of the book he says he graduated from college on a 3rd grade reading level. He makes up for that deficit by being an excellent story teller

Entrepreneurs Read This!

I've read the Magnolia story too, and while I loved that one to hear their struggles and journey together to make this amazing business, Chip's perspective just resonated with me. As an entrepreneur myself, his optimism and scrappiness is exactly how I feel about building my business and my legacy. His prospective on the world we live in is spot on in my opinion. I think everyone should read this book and be inspired by working hard, loving your family and always trying to do right by your fellow man. Bravo Chip Carter!

The End of Fixer Upper Explained

I have enjoyed the TV Show Fixer Upper. I have found down home uniqueness in Chip & Joanna Gaines. The relationship with each other, their family & children has been endearing. I will miss them as one of my regular people to watch during the week & to marvel at their accomplishments. Good luck to them, hope to see you again. Chipper, #thanksforexplaining!
