Great characters

Fantastic character development I just listened to the 4audios available and will definitely continue to the end

decent series

It's a decent series. Gets a little preachy with politics, but it's largely ignorable. Those bits mainly make me roll my eyes a lot. I do wish the author spent less time on the romance aspect, as those parts tend to make me cringe and skip forward through the characters who are supposedly adults acting like teenagers. The MC does seem to have a streak of seeing his partner as a damsel in distress that I find annoying because it doesn't really make sense given the women in his life, but again, that's ignorable. Now, those are what I would call the negatives. It should be pointed out that I still found the overall story decent enough that I continued listening. The world building is fantastic. If I had to critique the actual meat of the story, it would be that I feel like the MC and others in his orbit aren't putting dots together like I feel they should be. I just can't tell if that's due to who the characters are, or just how I want them to be. Like, is it who they are, or am I just fighting the urge to yell at a metaphorical hot blonde in a horror movie not to investigate the weird sound? I'm not sure.

As a side note, I'm also continuing the series because on the Oriceran timeline, it seems to be between the Leira Berens stuff and series like The Unbelievable Mr Brownstone. This one definitely proved that, in fact. So, in terms of seeing the development of the overall universe, this is a good option.

Might be my favorite book in the series so far. Great story vivid fights I loved it.
