Glad I held on to the end.

It's hard to take a story seriously when the term "karate chop" is used repeatedly. The main character is also hard to stomach. It's like she just doesn't learn. Same mistakes and behaivors over and over. Just doesn't seem like she grows at all until she kinda does. If it wern't for the last few chapters, I probably wouldn't give the rest of the series a shot. But I may put up with the narration (listen to sample before you commit to purchase/spend credit) and give the next book a try.

Story has a great premise

The story was good, but the execution was poor, and the narrator did not work for me.

such great potential but..

This book had such great potential, the main storyline was compelling but the writing just wasn't there. it reads much more like a young teen novel I think with most of the characters being very immature, and lacking depth. Considering the length of the book there was room for great nuanced character development instead most characters were barely skin deep and not very compelling. I get its fiction but when a swat team gets reduced to acting like a bunch of newbies constantly one of the main part of the storyline becomes unbelievable and makes it difficult to get into. I had high hopes that kept being let down, won't continue the series.

Excessive foul language

Use of f—-k 3 times per sentence in numerous dialogues is difficult to hear when used so casually in situations that have no justification for it. The story itself hangs together well in most places but has some areas that don’t fit together well or don’t seem logical.

Pretty clearly a Web novel/fanfic

I really wish these people would stop clogging up legit media sources with their half baked attempts to be legitimized as actual writers. They drag the whole of the industry down into the muck with them. Self publishing is the worst thing to have ever happened to the writing medium. Sigh, but i listened to it so now i have to review it. 1. Meandering plot. Obviously the author didn't make any effort to streamline the books, once he copied and pasted them from the internet. There are like four books in this one so called book. I know this because there are several times when the main character will start telling the listener about things that took place twenty minutes ago. 2. Poorly researched and cartoonish dialogue. You would think in a book based around a police theme the author would at the very least google police dispatch codes. It's not that hard. Also there are several times when the author attempts an older formal style of dialogue for the centuries old dragons, but apparently did not want to make any effort in seeing how someone might actually talk in those days. Honestly it sounds like what a twelve year old would think old people sound like. 3. Inconsistent powers. I have never seen a book actually try to teach someone to use their powers AFTER they have already been using them for the entire book. She uses her aura for several different things. Then Stonequest tries to teach her about it and she can no longer use it....for like five minutes then she is amazingly super gifted, or whatever. I listened to some of the second book and despite having used fire breath at the end of this book, the next book pretends like it never happened...? 4. Main character is an ass. She goes from stupidly arrogant to whiney and petulant at the drop of a hat. If she doesn't get her way she will throw a tantrum and others will give her what she wants. She will be rewarded again and again for disobeying orders. This continues through out this book and the next. It's disgusting. Her tantrums even made it easier for people to manipulate her, and yet she never learns. She continues this modus operando even in the next book. She is also some weird self hating bigot, racist toward anything that isn't human. Her nose is stuck so far up her own holier than thou ass, she can smell her conditioner. Speaking of hair, hope having "pretty red hair" as her only description isn't as annoying for you as it was for me. I shouldn't complain though ALL web novelists seem to think describing their main characters is beneath them. SIGh, it's not the worse web novel i have ever had the misfortune to come across but it is far from a good book.

Emily Beresford delivers again

I'm a huge fan of The Kurtherian Gambit series and Emily Beresford is an amazing narrator. It's always a pleasure with her. Michael Anderle is a great author. Kevin McLaughlin gave us a gem of a book I can't wait for more.

Kick-Ass story with a great narrator.... however, I felt a little frustrated sometimes that the main character. As a woman her decisions seemed very bizarre sometimes. She's portrayed as a woman but acts more as a hormonal teenager.

a little weird but u want to listen just to find out what's next.

I enjoyed all of it. the narrative, the narrerator, and can't wait to read the other books

The same quality I've come to expect

I've listened to a few series by this Author or collaborations they've done. And this has a similar quality. If you look at my history and notice all the five stars. I'm not paid to do this. I'm just careful with what I buy. I can't afford to waste money or credits. with anything less.
