Publisher's summary

Tattooist Chris Zelter doesn’t always make the best decisions when it comes to the people he cares about, or the women he gets involved with. Things have changed recently, though. Chris has lost interest in casual flings as he finds himself wrapped up in Sarah Adamson, a waitress at the local strip club he frequents. It takes months of persistent attention before she finally agrees to date him, and he's determined not to mess it up.

Just as things are finally going his way, Chris receives a troubled phone call in the middle of the night from Hayden Stryker, his best friend and business partner. Unexpected revelations and the sudden departure of his girlfriend, Tenley, has nearly sent Hayden over the edge. Add in a speeding ticket and an impounded car, and Hayden is balanced on the precipice of a total meltdown. Worried about his friend, Chris sets out on a rescue road trip, first to get Hayden, and then to bring back Tenley. The two men run into unforeseen roadblocks, proving even the best intentions don’t guarantee results.

Chris and Hayden return to Chicago empty handed, and Chris is left feeling as if he’s let down all the people who matter, especially Sarah. But Chris discovers that sometimes the best way to deal with failure is to find a way to forget about it. And losing himself in Sarah is the perfect way to do just that.

Quick

A short little teaser and a small little glimpse from Chris' POV. I liked it.
Lets not forget that listening to Jason Clarke always makes things better.

Hell yeah great addition to series

This was like a missing piece in the series. You meet the secondary characters and some make an impact. You want to know more about them. This up close view of what Chris was seeing was fab.

As always Jason Clarke delivered the goods.

So where is book 1? I mean don’t get me wrong Jason narrates this so it’s still a win and thank god it was free cause I need more.. But, why put out book 1.5 before book 1.. I ll be on the look out..

Hmmm

Tried out the author with this one. Little heavy on the drama side, lots of anger and upsets. The narrator was awesome. Lol I started to write narrators that’s how good Jason is I didn’t even notice there wasn’t a 2nd person talking. I like the two main characters but not so much the others. I’m more of chill reader though so I’m guessing it’s a great series if you’re into the Lifetime movies.

Not a stand a lone....

The story was good., however it really isn't a stand alone book. If you have not read the previous book you will be a little lost in the story.

No short story - snapshot within a story

I downloaded this book because I thought it was a short story, but it’s actually a snapshot within how much larger story. It is hard to figure out who is who and why the people do what they do. One friend helps another follow a girl who left. The best part is Jason Clarke as the narrator, I could listen to him reading the phone book.

STRICTLY AN IN-BETWEEN STORY

I was waiting for a preorder to drop and I had an hour to kill so this seemed perfect... but, it’s only perfect if you’ve listened to the previous book. This is a continuation of book 1 which isn’t available (at time of review) and is a short stepping stone into book 2 which isn’t available (at time of review). So really, until they do become available, this is an absolutely pointless story.. however you do get an hour of Jason Clarke so it’s not all bad news 😘 .

Worth a credit? It’s offered free so no credit needed.

What is going on?

I am completely at a loss while listening to this one. It is entirely my fault. I was desperate to tackle my reading challenge; thus, I chose novellas to listen to. So this one was from the POV of another secondary character, and it continued with what I think was the first book's cliffhanger. I'm afraid I cannot comment much on the story itself (but because this is a Helena Hunting novella, there is no question about her writing and how she weaves her novels), but Jason Clarke's performance is extraordinary. He gives personality to each character, making them distinct in the narration.

I am still unsure if I will continue with the series. But this will be on my radar.

Too short

Too short to be considered a book. It should be combined with the rest of the book it is taken from.
