Publisher's summary

The story of a remarkable friendship - told in a remarkable way. A story in which every woman will recognize herself...and her best friend

Jillian Lawton and Lesley Adamski. Two girls from very different backgrounds become best friends in the turbulent '60s, but their circumstances and choices - and their mistakes - take them in opposite directions. Lesley stays in their hometown. She marries young, living a life defined by the demands of small children, never enough money, and an unfaithful husband. Jill lives those years on a college campus shaken by the Vietnam War, and then as an idealistic young lawyer in New York City.

But they always remain friends.

Through the years and across the miles, Jill and Lesley confide everything to each other - every grief and joy. Because the quality of a friendship is the quality of a life.

Bonus Novella: Home to Honeymoon Harbor by JoAnn Ross

The rivalry between the Mannion and Harper families has divided them for over a century. Which is why, when John Mannion and Sara Harper fall in love, they become the small seaport town's very own Romeo and Juliet. But in Honeymoon Harbor, nothing - not even an infamous family feud - is a match for love.

good story crappy format!

As always, I very much enjoy Debbie Macombers stories, and this was no exception. That being said, I did not like the format at all. to listen to every address on every envelope, or every line of an airline ticket was very tedious. I thought of returning the book, but muscled my way through. I will not however purchase written in this format.

Time and dates

While I didn’t dislike the storyline, the constant announcing of dates and time was really unnecessary. I almost quit listening Gabon several occasions, but thought I should try to listen since I paid for it. I would not be inclined to recommend this book. I have listened to many Debbie Macomber stories and have enjoyed them.

The format is a bit odd.

I struggled with the addresses and letterhead being recited when changing characters in the book.

Boring

The story is based on many diary entries. It felt like someone was reading me someone else’s diary entry and it was boring. The storyline was also very predictable and did not move fast or have any element of excitement or intrigue.

Between Friends

Book would have been improved without the continuous reading of addresses on letters since this book is told through letters. Good story of to women spanning from childhood to senior citizen

Best Debbie Macomber yet

What did you love best about Between Friends?

When it started I thought I wouldn't like it but within minutes I couldn't stop listening and it brought back so many memories. Although I love most all of her books this one captured my attention and drew me in more than any other.

What other book might you compare Between Friends to and why?

I love the other Debbie Macomber books and think anyone who reads this would like any of her others.

Have you listened to any of Amy Tallmadge’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am not sure but she did an amazing job!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the first death occurred, I felt it personally and was so moved

Any additional comments?

Reliving history was so much fun and sparked emotions of forgotten events and corresponded with the characters.

Such a delightful way to tell a story!

At first I thought I wasn’t going to like this book, but I picked it up a second time and as I got into it I found Debbie Macomber’s style in writing for this book intrigued my senses and kept me involved. I’m a 76 year old women so I could recall, and relate to, all of the history Debbie so cleverly wove into the communications between these two friends. But it wasn’t just history, this book told very personal stories, as well. Thank you, Debbie Macomber, for the ‘experience’.

I didn’t want this book to end! Fantastic narrator too.

I have recently become a fan of Debbie Macomber, and have listened to five of her books in a row. I started this one two days ago and almost, almost sent it back because I found the journal entries and letters a little off putting at the beginning. I think within half an hour I was hooked and I actually think this was my favorite novel. All the letter, journal, and latterly emails are actually so good.

Her books are well researched, she doesn’t have so many characters you get them muddled up and you get to know their personalities. Her books are down to earth and have realistic storylines.

I loved that this took you through five decades of the two main characters and referred to real life events.

As with all her books and all books whoever the writer, the narrator makes the book and Amy Tallmadge is perfect.

I don’t know what to listen to now!

Enjoyable

I have read most of Debbie Macomber books. This was quite different, more of a journal. If you have every experienced a long friendship with someone this book will bring your memories to life!

made me appreciate my best friends

I loved this story. So creative and well written to carry us through the life of these friends through letters, announcements, and even emails. If you have a dear friend you've had by your side throughout the years, you will love this book.
